Aren't you around 22 or 23? Is that the usual age over in Scotland?

Whatever you do, don't have a kid first and hope the finances will work themselves out later. Jesus Christ do not.

EDIT- no, it's not: "The average age at which people marry for the first time has increased by around two years in the last 10 years, to 32.6 years for men and 30.9 years for women." - http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/press/ne … ished.html

This isn't a shot at your future plans necessarily. It is a shot at your plans if you are also considering a child. If the child happens unexpectedly, none of this matters. I only ask the average age because I was curious. It really doesn't speak to your own situation. The child thing, however, I stand by entirely.

It works differently in Scotland, you normally start having kids at about 14 so you can get a couple popped out by the time your ready to move into your council house at 16. And most people are dead by their mid 30's due to alcohol and drug abuse.

I'm 22 just now, will be 23 by the time I get married, and Jacqui will be 22. No plans for kids right now, Jacqui will still have 3 years of uni left when we get married, so at least 3 years before we entertain the idea.

Getting married is so expensive and a pain in the ass to get out of when you are done. Why not just live together for at least 3 years before legally tying yourselves to each other?

We've been living together 2 years, and it's not too expensive, I'm not like Jay where I need to have a grandiose display of my other half's wealth to try and impress everyone.

Its only as expensive as you want it to be. Every wedding doesn't have to be the cookie cutter white wedding with everyone either person has ever met there.

Spent last night incredibly uncomfortable, could not sleep, flatmates nicked all my sleepy time herba tea, wind, heat, massive headache. Made an excursion at 3:30am to the alleyway outside by building to kick the living shit out of a dented bourbon and cola can that and been rattling around in the wind making a Hell of a noise. Finally got to sleep at around 4:30am only to sleep through my alarm and be an hour late for work. Great start to the week.

Weddings are fun but are kinda a waste of money. My girlfriend and I have discussed numerous times about getting married in a couple years time or so. We want to go over to Thailand where it's heaps better value for money (probably on Koh Samui), we cater for less people anyway, our friends and family get a holiday from it (they pay their own flights etc) and then we get a honeymoon out of it to boot. A few friends have said this is a great idea and they would definitely make the journey.

Then you come back and host a big party for all those who could not make it. Ask a local cake shop to make a tiered cake for your little sister and that she loves marzipan, so you save 75% off a wedding cake and then just decorate it yourself (friends did this, the price went from $400 to $100).

Leave the girlfriend and take the money you would have spent on the wedding and move to Thailand. For just a few goats you can buy the prettiest girl in an entire village.
