Not really... Each state in Mexico has it's own variation of food. There really is no 'Mexican food', just regional stuff.

What, the bit about the sauce? Obviously I don't mean something like A1 or HP. I think a well-made sauce can complement a tasty steak.

Steak sauce implies HP etc. when you're at a restaurant. Because the menu options for sauces are all house made and are meant for steak, obviously. It would be like walking up to cocktail bar and asking for a drink and not specifying, except the implication is you want a UDL.

What he should've done is look at the sauce options and ask for one of the house made ones listed there, like a mushroom/garlic/etc.

The word I misplaced was "tacqueria." Mental shorthand on my part. Tacqueria de Jalisco is the one closest to work, so we always just say we're "going to the Jalisco."
