Oh EB Games, you so crazy.
So Portal 2's $50, and you're essentially buying a $40 Rubik's cube plus a number stamped on a box that's shaped slightly different than the others.

How about 'no.'

Valve sets the prices for the PC version, Microsoft and Sony set the prices for the consoles.

I'm not paying 40 bucks for a Rubik's cube. Where's the art books? The extra in-game content? Betas for more valve projects? Making of stuff? Posters? Lithographs? Audio CD's? Not even so much as a Team Fortress 2 item, for those who care about that.

This is one of the lamest collector's packages I've ever seen. I'm sticking with my digital order.

I don't think Valve had anything at all to do with that pack. Especially since there's no collectors edition anywhere else in the world.

Retail game prices in Australia are $80-$100 rather than $50 so its not as bad as it seems. Obviously anyone who isnt an idiot just buys their games digitally and doesnt get ripped off.

No, it is as bad as it seems.

$88 USD for the PC box, $108 USD for the console box. I'm guessing the price would be amped up even higher in Aussie bucks, if available there. It's inexcusable.

Ah. You're right, though. I didn't catch the .au in the link, so I figured eb was trying to hock a Rubik's cube and a game for twice a game's value in USD. Didn't see the box on the US site, though, so it might be your exclusive. Or i didn't look hard enough.

Obviously. Just because I didnt put an addendum there saying *EXCEPT FOR GAMES PRICED THE SAME AS RETAIL  doesnt mean it wasnt implied :p

Best way to get around it is to get someone in the US to gift it to you on steam/D2D whatever and paypal them the money.

Working on a quickie 'reformed Calradian military' troops mod for Mount & Blade. It's very convenient, only having to edit two text files. Currently adding a new tech tree:

TIER 0 UNITS
townsman, farmer, x villager -> calradian y

ytier 1tier 2tier 3tier 4tier 5tier 6
arecruit (L4)
bskirmisher (L9)
cfoot archer (L13)
dveteran bowman (L19)
ebow sergeant (L23)
fmaster bowman (L33)
ghorse archer (L19)
hheavy horse archer (L23)
iexpert horse archer (L29)
jscout (L13)
kscout cavalry (L19)
llight horse (L23)
mraider (L29)
nfootman (L9)
osoldier (L13)
ppikeman (L19)
qhalberdier (L23)
rchampion (L33)
slegionary (L19)
tsergeant (L23)
ucataphract (L29)
vheavy horse (L23)
wknight bachelor (L33)
xcrossbowman (L13)
yveteran crossbowman (L19)
zcrossbow sergeant (L23)
a1sharpshooter (L29)

...plus archery branches for the otherwise simple refugee/peasant woman -> sword sister tree.

Colors in white split into different paths, represented by other colors.

Summary:

Recruit - white cloth and rare leather; armed with stuff you'd expect peasants to have
Skirmisher - green cloth and rare leather; armed with spears, throwing weapons, and the rare short sword and shield
Archers - start with leather and end with mail; new bow and arrows for L29
Horse Archers - start with leather and end with mail
Light Cavalry - start with leather and end with mail; armed with throwing weapons and curved blades; light horse may have crossbows, raiders may have throwing weapons
Footman - red cloth and rare leather; armed with swords, maces, axes and small shields
Soldier - mail and leather; armed with board shields, shortswords and short spears
Pikemen & Halberdiers - mail, leather and rare plate; armed with captain obvious
Champion - plate armor; armed with the best of any type of two-handed weapons (esp sword of war), the rare bastard sword/huscarl shield and heavy throwing axes
Legionary & Sergeant - light plate; armed as soldier; sergeant may have horse and bashing weapon or axe
Cataphract - super-heavy cavalry, lots of encumbrance, mostly lance, spiked mace & steel shield
Heavy Horse - light plate, plate and mail, armed with sword, shield and lance
Knight Bachelor - randomized full plate armor, best 1 or 1/2h blades, shields, lances and throwing weapons or other tertiary weapon or shield
Crossbowmen - start with leather and end with mail and plate; order is crossbow, heavy crossbow, siege crossbow and heavy crossbow (sharpshooters are compensate for having a weaker crossbow than sergeants with inflicting frequent hits at a higher rate of fire and accuracy
This is a rather powerful army compared to individual nations, but expensive. I don't view it as cheating, because one of the game's goals is to unite the region's bickering nations into one power and one vast feudal military. As such, being under one kind, military reform is an option that just doesn't show up without editing game files. Even without being king, your character can stack up massive intelligence, charisma and training abilities, so should be perfectly capable of training various recruits from all around the land however he wants. So I don't really think of it as a cheat.

So, not a cheat.
