Sorry dude, but silly, silly mistake.

Two pair is not as strong as it looks.

Of course, it all depends on the game, the individual players involved, and their respective table images.

As Airwolf says, it was a bad beat, but the key to being really good at poker is knowing how to avoid bad beats.

(not that I'm saying I'm any good at it - I know the theory, but I suck in practice)
so dont put your shortstacked opponent all in when he has 3 outs against you with 2 cards to come.

k

i have played thousands of hours of poker in the 5 years that i have played. i have also read 3 long ass poker books. i have won more than $2000 playing low-stakes. i know what i'm doing

But you don't know what he had before he went all in. You didn't know he only had 3 outs. What if he'd've had trips?

You can not base your decision on his cards, only your cards.

Hey, I'm not criticising. I've done exactly the same in what sounds like exactly the same kind of situation.

And as I said, it depends on the context of the game - which of course I don't fully know - you probably did the right thing in that context, but not the right thing in every context - and that's the silly mistake people make, assuming they can't be beat.

I do sympathise.

If you base your decisions on other peoples cards, then you're the one digging holes.

You can not base a decision on what you don't know.

You can only try to figure out what they're likely to have.

Poker is about making right decisions.  he made the right decision.  you don't assume you can't be beat, but when you flop top 2 pair, there is no reason to fold! he got lucky, he only had 15% chance of hitting going into the turn and a 25% chance going into the river.  You can't win every hand in poker, but you can win more than you lose, and that is how you make a profit.

And when you base decisions on other peoples cards, you obviously can't see them physically, but you can make very accurate assumptions from their actions, and irl, bodily tells.

I'm not sure where your argument was going, but i don't think you know enough about poker to be arguing about how ig played that hand.

ig: partypoker, i can't play full tilt or pokerstars because i'm not 18 and its too hard to get my money on.  Partypoker just lets me wire it through my bank account, and i lie about my age lol.

AS I already said - I understand the theory - I'm just shit at the practice - so maybe I am wrong.

I just find I do better by playing two-pair cautiously than not - if I get a hint that the other player has a better hand, they're folded (unless I'm playing a clear and obvious bluffer, then I play them).

In my book, someone going all-in means they either have the best possible hand or they're trying to make you think they have - if it's the former, you're fooked, if it's the latter, then there are better times (like when you have the nuts) to call them.

But then I play the more passive-aggressive game.

i got sucked out like every time i played because the players were horrendous. meh that was a long time ago, and i was probably just paraoid; i hadnt played much online poker at the time. pokerstars and full tilt have such a huge variety of games, so there is no reason for me to switch.

we used to deposit money on ftp and stars before we were 18; im sure you can do the same

it's for real money, but the chip counts are just tournament chips. they do not reflect the actual dollar amounts, if that makes sense...

everyone starts with $1500 in chips, but it's only a $1.10 tourney

1:1

he bought in using real money, which is on his account, to a tournament. in the tournament you are given 2000 chips to start, then the top 3 finishers (usually) collect the money from the buy-ins.
