yeah its about the same price i dont see a noticeable difference running sata thoughJunior_Mud wrote:

is the cost basis worth the upgrade? as in, are the Sata HD the same or near cost of an IDE HD?
There's not much in it price wise, but with SATA-II you can get an external transfer speed up to 300MB/s. Normal SATA runs at about 150MB/s whereas the fastest ATA (IDE) drives run at about 133MB/s. If you can go for SATA, then do it. Just remember to press F6 and insert the SATA floppy disk when prompted whilst installing Windows.Junior_Mud wrote:

RAID has nothing to do with SATA. You can also have an IDE-Raid. The performance boost depends on the controller (real Hardware-Raid or the more common "software"-raid controler on consumer grade motherboards). Only the raid 0 would make transfers faster, raid 1 simply mirrors the disks leaving you with a more reliable system (if one harddisk would crash you still have all data on the second drive).Duramen1 wrote:
the other nice thing is you can run a pair of SATA drives in a RAID I or RAID 0 setup and that will make them much faster then any IDE

i just recently installed 2 Maxtor 100Gb SATA drives, and let me say that there is a big difference. My BF2 maps load much faster, and data verification time is cut to about 5sec. It takes me about 20-30sec to load 64player Strike at Karkand, and my video setting are set to all high. Before when i had IDE HD it took about a minute to load the map, and 20sec to verify data. but it also depends on the system that you are running. so i would recommend SATA HD.frank32 wrote:
