So, when I saw this game on warez-bb TV I was somewhat surprised: any news on Supreme Commander's expansion pack had evidently been sucked into a black hole of hype created by certain other games, making its release known only to nobody. Supreme Commander wasn't a hugely popular game, but it was good. The SP campaign was amusing, and the multiplayer was awesome. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised that an expansion pack was available and proceeded to acquire it immediately.
Forged Alliance is certainly an improvement on its unexpanded younger brother; the AI has been improved enough to provide a challenge to anyone beyond the level of fuckwit, a la the original. All the maps included for skirmishes and multiplayer matches from Supreme Commander are also playable in FA, along with the same amount of new maps, putting the total map count above 30, which is actually quite a lot. The existing armies have each been given a dozen or two of new units. Instead of these being reskins of old units with added lens flare, they actually do add extra layers of gameplay, which has been improved altogether by better unit AI, a better GUI, and several new options such as the ability to save templates for building units.
As for the rest, I'm not sure. There's something about having to stop aliens from destroying the universe, but I haven't played anything beyond skirmishes yet. In any case, it's a game highly worth playing.
