So far all I've heard is that it's called R580, kind of like the x850 series is to the x800 series. So, who knows what it will be called, and yes they most likely will take the title back. This is how it is, it goes back and forth. That's why I hate it when people say to buy one product over another because it's madw by so and so. Truth be told you cannot go wrong with either company, just look for the best bang for your buck. ATI will always do better at DirectX, and Nvidia will always be better at OpenGL.

No, the x1800 is the R520, the r580 has not been released yet. Read my above post. Think of it like when the x800 was out then they released the x850 series, same concept.

well nvidia has a 512 mb 7800gtx out so that will take some beating.

Not exactly, the new ATI is their answer for the Nvidia 512, so expect it to beat it in some benchmarks. make no mistake those two cards will be top king, and they will be about even. Some benchmarks Nvidia will win, some ATI will win, the deciding factor will be price.

The funny thing is, ATI is keeping up with Nvidia, but with less pipelines. I've also heard the R580 should have more than 16. ATI's card will also be built on 90nm process. Nvidia might be doing that in another 2 generations. I think it will be interesting to see the 2 go at it, price wise. I love the competition, but my problem with it is that you could buy the 7800gtx512, then in a couple months they both release a new monster. Stuff outdates to fast. I found out that the g71 is to go up against the R580 chipset.
