The video card I am currently running my computer on is the GREAT ATi Radeon 9550. I saw last night that this card was one of the top cards to have for Battlefield 2. But, I am forced to run every thing at "Low" settings, with some things (like "Anti-Aliasing" off). Can any one explain to me why?

My system spec's are:

RAM: 768 MB of RAM
Video Card: ATi Radeon 9550
Motherboard: ASUS X
Monitor: Dell P991

Please help, I can't stand "Low" graphics...

What do you mean when you say you "saw last night that this card was one of the top cards to have for BF2"?

The Battlefield 2 website said that this was one of the top supported cards.

I've got a 9500 pro and I can run everything on medium a few on high at 1280x1024 @ 70Mhz with 4x AA. I'm not using ATI drivers though. I downloaded Omega drivers and have mine overclocked to 310 and 304.

Basicly your graphics card suck and you don't have enought of memory and there's no way to play BF2 without laging with better settings than all low/off. You need atleast something like R9800 pro or GF6600 GT or better and at least 1 gig of memory (well it's not so much either... 1.5 GB atleast would be better) before you can think better settings.

I just don't belive you.. Sure omega drivers + overlocking make it better and your grapchis card is now about R9600 pro but still. Sure your game maybe is running but I think that your FPS is not so good anyways. Sure I can be wrong but that sounds weird. But memory is more important than graphics card in BF2 (sure those both are important).

So I need more memory? Then I can raise my graphics up a li'l? I don't lag at all with "Low". And I've tried running it on "Medium", and I only lag from time to time, but I want a smooth game.

I forgot to mention that I added aftermarket HSF and memory coolers which helps a lot. I get around ~30 fps. It's managable

It becomes more like a 9700 non pro. The 9500pro and 9700 non pro are practically the same cards. Nowdays you can unlock the 9500pro by software but I had to do it the hard way when I had one.

I have the same card but with 1 gig memory and 256 mb video card memory. i can not play medium without a little choppiness so i just turn Anti-Aliasing to 6x and lighting on high, view distance at 100%. i get maybe 20~30 FPS. Ohh ya, i run Bf2 on 800x600

I dont recommend it (i dont do it but others do) because you could get issues such as a black screen and you wont be able to change it because when you turn the computer on the G- Card wont be working. Cheers

ATI locked the 9550 is because it is actually a 9600 that's been underclocked. ATiTOOL will unlock your card & you can try increasing the core from 250MHz to 325MHz (9600 speed) with little worries...after that, use normal overclocking precautions
ATITool

Check this site out here for all your answers

*Warning*
Be careful - doing any of this could fry your card - I do not recommend it but it is ultimately up to you

This site also has guides on overclocking your GPU, as well as guides for tweaking Windows and BF2.  It also describes each of the video settings in BF2.  Pretty good site...

use the ATI tool and and hit find max core and max memory. This will find the highest settings without any artifacts or glitches. Use it even if it takes forever it is worth it.

Well that's what I was thinking. If 30 FPS is enought for you, then it is, but I can't play with less than 60 FPS (around 100 is soooooo amazing).

EDIT: And what comes to that R9550, you can't overlock it that much.. Sure overlock help a little, but if you want play with all settings high/on it won't help enought. You need something like Radeon X800 (XT) or so... As I said before... Basicly R9550 suck (it's enough for somebody, not for me) and it's not good enought to play with all settings high/on
