In other words, the person who can see the best of the overall battlefield (i.e. commander) would probably be the best person to use the arty, no?

It's not like using arty excludes you from doing anything else. It's just a much better use of your time and abilites as commander.

Hey dude, my graphics are cack too, I think all you need to do to see the smoke trails is set Effects to Medium.

I used this technique in a few rounds last night.  It was a (pardon the pun) BLAST!

Basically you're camping, but still it's quite fun to watch people fly.   It's really hard to use on some maps, and easier on others.  I don't even have the "streaks" turned on... so I had to wing it and hope my shots landed close enough for me to adjust my aim, which inevitably it did, but it took several shots to get sighted into anything useful.

If you have a hotly contested flag it's great to be able to CONSTANTLY shell it with arty.   

I also actually got to use arty the "proper" way for the first time last night as well.  It was OK but not as fun as the commander way.

Bad news kids.  Your sneaky arty trick is now gone with the new patch.  Commander can't do crap while in the arty.  Which is the way it should be.  Cheater!  LOL
