My big problem with BF2 is that I really, really like infantry combat. Karkand is great fun, as is sharqi, as is mashtuur, as are other IO small sizes.
Have you tried the INFANTRY ONLY servers? I think you will enjoy them quite a bit.
1) If you are hit from behind, you will be dead way before you can turn around.
This would be neither here nor there, except that I've been spoiled by BF2s random deviation, which actually makes infantry fighting A WHOLE LOT MORE INTERESTING. Who would have thought?
I believe this makes you more wary of all sides around you. Spinning around just to check your flanks and rear is a good thing. Paranoia is a good thing. Being shot in the back should kill you. I have no reason to think it takes away from my enjoyment. If anything it hightens my excitment and enjoyment.
2) The attacking team gets pwned in Fallen.
Seriously. The way to win fallen is to split up your team between two flags, take those, and sit on them. The defending team can't win by sitting around, but they get owned by moving towards your flags in anything but prone.
If you are attacking a flag straight on and using Caveman Karkand Hotel Tactics then I expect you to die and I applaud that you die. I hope you die more often. Frankly running straight into a flag is idiotic. Will you die alot regardless of what you do? Yes. But in Fallen you expect the casulties. As Squad Leader I attack flags all the time. More often than not we take those flags. So you must have either very bad luck or shitty squad leaders.
3) One hit weapons are ultra stupid.
One hit weapons are just not fun, unless the map is Unreal Tournament size, you move at Unreal Tournament speed, and you respawn in Unreal Tournament time. Since this is still BF2, the anti-tank rockets and the one-hit-kill sniper kit are really, really, really not fun.
They are not one hit weapons. They seem like that to you but they aren't. I can get hit and immediately go prone and still have health. I can get hit while moving and still turn and take out the person shooting at me with a fast well placed zoom shot to the neck head area. The only one shot kill is the pick up .50 cal sniper rifle and a deadon shot from an Anti-Personel rocket (AT Kit on that Map).
So, basically, in answer to the OPs question, if you like infantry combat, POE2 is really not for you.
If you like EASY infantry combat POE2 is not for you. If you want to meet the bar and not have the bar of difficulty lowered to your easier standards then POE2 is MADE for you. It's a challenge and I want people who are going to give me a challenge. If you don't want to bring me your A game, if you don't want to contribute to intelligent squad tactics, if you don't want to be a team player, then stay on BF2 because that is more suited for you.
