i believe you, but...have you EVER been to ukraine? have you EVER fought in green woods with the grass to your knees/waist?

let's not argue what is way more close to the real ok? i'm from slovakia, that is next to ukraine, and i find those maps VERY VERY CLOSE to the real stuff. so if the war would take place here around in the villages, it would very much look like POE.

the term "goddamn war" is prolly not really appropriate, but on the other hand, what war is good? not one of them...

with all due respect, there is nothing else than US and arabs to you? (by you i mean the US army). i know a couple of americans, who went to slovakia to make english lecture courses, but before they arrived here, they never even knew where the hell central/eastern europe is. have you ever seen the stupid embarrasing eastern europe maps on CNN?  what makes YOU think, that i do not know what is close to the real thing?

no offence, even tho the reply does sound a bit out of line

I don't intent on going back to vanilla unless POE's popularity dies down.

I think the weapon load out screens look RUBBISH, but that the rest of the game looks very nice.

THat said, I'm not really into playing it. I don't really like the vehicles, they don't feel realistic (not that they do in BF2 either, but the balance isn't right imo - they're too light in PoE(I only use ground vehicles)) and I just don't find the overall effect to be one of authenticity.

I'll carry on with Vanilla until I get really bored (no sign of that yet) and return to PoE when the mods will have tweaked here and there and made those loadout screens look better, perhaps.

The weapon loadout screens are not as polished as vanilla BF2.  That's a small issue, though, I really enjoy the rest of the game.  At first, after playing POE2, I told myself I'd never go back.  But I still find better squad play in vanilla BF2 as of right now.  Maybe it will improve as more people start playing.  Balance is pretty good, different than vanilla BF2 and does takes a bit to get used to.

POE2 weapons help make the mod closer to reality than vanilla BF2 (though I've never been in the armed forces so I don't have first hand knowledge).  When I shoot a high caliber sniper rifle, it should sound like I'm really punching some lead out there at the target.  That is not the case in BF2 even with the Barrett .50 sniper.  All the weapon sounds and accuracy are much better which makes it more satisfying to fire the weapons in POE2.  The assault rifles are really loud on full auto  and there's finally a silenced primary weapon for Spec Ops, too!  I love the German sniper rifle MSG-90, the whole German army loadout for that matter.  I have found a couple good spots and have went through all my ammo getting kills.  The Benelli M4 shotty is just plain sexy and close range nothing beats it.  The VEPR assault rifle looks great, too.

Maps:
In general I think the POE2 maps are more creatively designed than vanilla BF2.

Dnipro Sunrise is my favorite so far.  Lots of good hiding spots for sniping.  The cover in general is much better for sneaking around.

Orel is my 2nd fav.  The infantry combat gets really intense at the buildings around the flags.  Nice to be able to enter most buildings, too.

POE2 = Crap.
The maps are terrible, and the new weapons are worse that those of SF, god forbid any competative league pick up POE2 as a new medium.

well, the maps are all very different as far as optics go. some look very nice and polished, with rich textures ( like Fallen, for example ), others look a bit "simple" texture-wise and more like late 90's ( like that road rage map ). But that's natural considering the maps were all made by different people, I think.

but still, I love the sounds in PoE2, the blood adds a little realism, and infantry combat is off the hook on Fallen. Keep your head down, move slowly and cover each other's back. Just like it should be. teamwork ftw.

as far as small unit tactics go, Fallen is the map to be. teamwork, formation, movement, flanking, that's all very realistic, IMHO.

And you can't really compare that to BF2, mainly because BF2 only has middle eastern city maps for infantry, not east european woods, and the BF2 maps are not purely infantry either, with the tanks, apc's and choppers.
I think Fallen is quite realistic in simulating infantry combat under those specific circumstances.

USMarine looks pretty airtight, IMO, but I ugess there's no reason he can't have asid something extremely offensive.

Anyways, I like infantry combat, and fallen is not good:

Camping snipers are basically untouchable.  All the claymore fiends in BF2 vanilla whined for this, and they have it, and the only reason it's not intollerable is because you can't beat any kind of camper at all in POE2, period.

If you die, it's a much longer walk back to the action (which was often around a corner) than Karkand or Sharqi.    I realize that you have a sprint bar as long as IS97, but it still doesn't make it fun to dash around for 30 seconds, instead of walk for 50.

The defending team will OWN you.  It is almost clinically impossible to take flags from a capable team in fallen because of how little time you have to spot someone who is shooting at you before you die.

You have no time to react to gunfire.  If someone shoots at you, you're dead.  That's all well and good, but games like Call of Duty and FEAR (and the obvious UT/Quake combo) did this and then let you respawn 2 seconds later, spitting distance from an intense firefight.  Not POE.  When you drop dead, it'll be about a minute before you're popping heads again.

One-Hit-Kits: Everyone hates the AWP in CS.  If you don't, you haven't played CS yet.  It isn't fun.

Also, the lack of hand grenades is silly.  Special forces really doesn't need them.

There are a long list of things that I really like about POE, however.  For one, it's brand spanking new.  Next, the artillery (totally impractical in pubs, mind you) is really cool.  The way the kits are dependant on each other promises for cool teamplay.  The AA actually works.  And how!  And the lack of points means that no one is trying to use offensive claymores.  So, basically, it rocks.  Just not for infantry combat people.

I think POE2 is a nice mod, but it is using BF2 engine, so how can you say BF2 sucks?
i think BF2 is the best pc game ever.  When you say you can't play it anymore coz of the hacks, noobs, padders, whatever, I don't understand you.  You have more than 1500 servers on everyday in BFHQ to choose, all of them are full of shit?
I think the reason you like POE2 better than BF2 is that it has no stats, and so you can play freely.
But saying BF2 sucks is BS.
Regarding the infantry issue I think BF2 with patch 1.4 is a lot much better to play infantry.  Karkand, Sharqi and Mashtur f.i. are perfect maps for infantry.  The POE2 maps are more vehicle maps IMO.

Just because it uses the same engine doesn't mean it's the same game. That's like saying a TVR is exactly the same as a Mustang to drive because they both use the same block, when they're actually completely different cars.

The new maps, the dynamic of how the teams work, what a difference the kits and weapons make, and the altered vehicles all make for a very different game. Saying it's just because of the lack of stats is simply not true , because you can play on an unranked BF2 server any day of the week and your stats won't matter.

I like PoE2 for the same reasons I loved bf1942 and DC. It feels more like their spiritual successor than BF2 does. Don't get me wrong, I love BF2, but PoE2 has me.

Actually, if you read the entire post I specifically mention MULTIPLE MODS, not just one. There is no "BF2 Mods" Forum (Last I checked)
And I personally thought this was better off in the "chatter" forum since this IS chatter about BF2 and it's mods.
And people keep saying that the defending team ALWAYS wins, But really all it takes are some good hand-grenades, some smoke, and a good squad to create some havok.
It's just that most people are too stupid to do that.

well, while it may be true that it can be difficult to spot a sniper on fallen, it is also quite realistic. Solution: Play in squads, get revived, use the smoke grens. Moreover, because of the fast-moving action, camping snipers really aren't that much of a problem on Fallen, at least according to my experience.

really ? I usually spawn on the SL and I am right back in the action.

hm, whenever I have played Fallen in the last couple of days, the matches were pretty even, and different results were largely due to differences in player skills / teamplay / map understanding, not because of the way
the map is set up. It was mostly a wild dash between SP's, with each team trying hard to set up a line of defense after having secured a number of spawnpoints. But there are so many ways to flank on Fallen, holding on to SP's for an extended period of time is merely impossible anyway.
But I agree that this map promotes, rather demands good teamplay, or you won't have any success. Which is exactly what I like about Fallen. And I have staged a number of successful attacks on enemy SP's. It is al about the right tactics.

again, teamplay/playing in dquads is the solution. Also, I have come to realize that you cannot play Fallen like any map in BF2. Most people who get hit by a 7,62 cal. don't get up, that's just realistic. Which is why I move slowly, keep my head down, and - most importantly - I never try to spot the enemy and shoot back while still standing ( which is what most people do in BF2 ). Rather, when I get hit and live through it, I'll immediately go to crouch, throw a smoke and try to move away from my previous position, while either giving suppression fire or calling in reinforcements / a medic. I believe that scenario is way more realistic than the cowboy-style shoot-outs in BF2

Noobzorz wrote:

learn, adapt, overcome. use the smokes and play in squads. teamplay ftw.

Noobzorz wrote:

actually, I second that. I miss my frag grens dearly, espcecially as medic. Then again, it fits perfectly into the teamplay concept of PoE2. The kits all depend on each other. limiting certain items to certain kits forces people to play together and actually chose a kit according to the needs of the squad they play in.

i disagree....did you experience, what "no vehicle mode" did to BF2? its a freakin grenade mayhem...no fun at all, if you ask me...trying to cap flag, 15 greandes fly into whatever flag you are trying to cap...good thing in POE are very few kits with HE grenades...
