Stinger question

Picked up the hand help stinger for the first time today, and I have one or two questions.

Does it actually lock, or is it like the stingers from DC - ie just ultra fast?

From the "HUD" of this weapon, it looks like it locks onto targets, as when I have them "locked up" they drop flares and start evading. But when I fire the missile it just goes off really quickly in a straight line, which is what motivates me to ask the above question.

Yeah, it locks, and it locks a lot faster than other AA stuff, I find. If you're clever with your location, you can lock on and fire fast enough that the enemy jet mightn't have deployed his flares at all (most pilots like to leave it as late as possible).

Like with other AA, its best to wait until a jet is travelling away from you before firing, if you can send it straight up his tail-pipe it gives you the best chance of a hit.

Keep in mind their flares are most effective if they are being fired upon from behind.
