Some (most?) artillery needs a vehicle to tow it. Self-propelled means it has it's own locomotive system.loonitic wrote:

I love it, except when they demo'd the longbow they freakin missed the empty tank with the rockets and only shot the gun about ten times.

Machowicz was talkin about a US self-propelled howitzer the other day. The Army's even planning on installing self-defense guns similar to the Phalanx system on Navy ships (like the Essex in BF2). They're supposed to able to deal with RPGs.. even tank rounds... that's amazing.
