Tiered unlocks - How do they work?

I have not got a 2142 beta key, so I was wondering if any of you guys that do could answer this question.

I remember an interview with one of the EA developers where he said that there were different levels of unlocks.
IE you cant unlock some things until you have either previous unlocks, or maybe a time requirement.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?
And if it's confirmation how exactly does it work [for the beta at least].

I'll give an example. If you wanted to unlock the Advanced Medical Hub, which heals people faster, the prerequisite unlock is the defibrilator.

Exactly. For instance, if you want the Lambert Carbine, you must first unlock RDX, active camo, and one other thing (I forget what). There are lines of unlocks. To get to the unlock last in line, you must first unlock the ones before it in line. Make sense?

Advice to anyone who likes to play engineer: get the left tier unlocks, the one with the anti tank rifle. It completley owns all classes of enemies.
