ok the vets program free rank up. so lets say the first 2142 rank is 5000 points. so with the rank up do we get a free 5000 points or just the rank up. b/c id rather get the first 5000 points on my own then get a free rank up and have to waight till say i get 10000 more points to the next rank!

The first rank up is 40 points. Your first 3-4 ranks are really easy to get, I unlocked an entire Recon line in one sitting.

The first rank is 40 points I think. And the second is 68 points, in the BETA version that is.
Yeah, there's a bazillion ranks and they are close together. In the beta at least, I already have like a dozen ranks and I'm at ~2000 points.

there's also another significant difference in the score system in bf2142 - you have global score, and career points. Career points are earned with awards, and pins (new awards in 2142) can be won as many times as you want, some of them giving you lots of points. In a good round of knifing I can easily treble my global score in career points. Career points + global score determines your rank, but the global score is what's on display in the leaderboards. Jam3z, for example, has a relatively low global score but a huge career score. This is because us knife whores get 40 points for 8 knife kils, 10 points for 5 kills in a row, and 40 for 10 in a row, while you might get 20-30 points in a round from normal score.

there are 43 ranks, 3 of which only 3 different people can have. within your first 1000 points, you'll get about 10 rank-ups. make sure you get your veterans thing so you can get 40 FREE POINTS!!!11!

if they only give you the points until the first unlock (and if its only 40 points until then) the veterans program is senseless - just to save 30 minutes of play *pfff*
