Breaking into the HL World

Hey, as stated a few times before, some of you would know that I have never played any of the Half Life franchise, barring Counter Strike 1.6/Source

I did play a little of HL 1, up until the explosion thing happens and stuff starts dieing, but that freaked me out and it ended there

Now I am finally ready to break back into the world of half life, after hearing all sorts of praise, and I need to know, what game is best to start on, will I lose any experiance or plot understanding of the HL world? I was thinking of going along the lines of

HL 2
Ep 1
Ep 2 (If its out by the holidays)
HL 1

So that I get straight into the full storyline and action, then when its all over, go back and have a sort of "Prequil" type thing happening in HL 1

So what do you think, how is the best way to Break into the World of Half life?

From the begining, not any really crucial story line progression, but there are quite a few things in HL 2 that refer back to the first game, would help you understand it alot better, enrich the game play experience.....or some such bull shit.....

As someone who has very very recently, (last weekend - finished HL2 and Episode 1 in three days,) been introduced to the Half-Life world, (thank you Stryyker,) I can probably help you out.

Don't play Half Life 1 after Half Life 2, it's what I did. Half Life 1 cannot compete. I can suggest that you just skip HL1 altogether, it just dosn't stand up anymore and ca get annoying. Still, if you do skip it, go on the internet to get a brief synopsis of the storyline, just so HL2 makes more sense. I suggest Wikipedia, but don't read further than you have to, you don't want to wreck the storyline of HL2, as it is fucking brilliant. The storyline is the essential part of Half Life.

Honestly, you've probably played HL1 as far as you have to to get the crucial bits, so you can afford to just read about it instead and just continue on to #2. Don't read too much into HL2 before you start, as it's best for the gaming experience if you're confused and then start to pierce things together a bit.

Pshh, I dont really wanna go through the not so great graphics HL1 just to understand a few things, I like mystery, which makes playing it as a Prequil so much more fun!

Besides, I skimmed over alittle bit of HL1 and it doesnt really excite me, alien planets piss me off, as do dark games

You could...Go through the not so great graphics, and then when you beat it, enjoy the HL2 graphics.

Half Life 2 can be pretty dark - refer to that Ravenholm thing I sent you, and remember that screenshots hardly say a lot. There are no purple Alien planets though which is a good thing, the action all takes place on Earth. HL2 makes a shit-load more sense than HL1.

I think you're prequal idea is a good one, although I reckon you'll give up on HL1 after a while without finishing it, at least that's what I found. HL2 kicks HL1 right in the goolies so damn hard that HL1's goolies no longer exist in any sense of the word.

Eugh, I wanna play so much right now thanks to the Ravenholm thing Tyferra! Damn it! I have 5 Weeks to raise enough money to buy HL 2 and Ep 1, or 5 Weeks of googling /torrenting to get the Game for free

Ah nevermind, I really should work on BF2:SF before I start another game, and besides Im only 23000 points away from a rank! WOW!

Opposing Force: 3 times
Blue Shift: 2 times

play the whole series, totally worth it.
