Is there really any challenge? Germany has the best highway system in the world.

I've travelled all over the States and Europe - so I know a little about highways. For sure the UK has the worst highways in western Europe. I sware they're built to kill people - in order to ease overpopulation concerns.

Germany has everyone beat when it comes to the Autobahn system. It's free, it doesn't have speed limits, and it's straight and smooth... it really is the perfect highway.

In the States, it depends on which state you're in. In Texas, the Interstate seems alright. I always used to dread driving through Arkansas... they really let their Interstates fall apart. Personally I believe speed limits should be abolished in most states - or at least raised to 90 or 100 mph. Then maybe the Interstate system would come close to Germany's Autobahn.

I really don't know why I posted France up there... their highway quality matches Germany's standards... yet they have ridiculous tolls. You better have at least 200 Euro with you if you're goin from Germany to Spain.

Yes there are speed limits in cities of course, but a large majority of it is unrestricted.

I may be the odd man out here but have you ever considered that speed limits may be a good thing? Not that anyone even follows them now but atleast the cops can pull over crazys going 30mph faster than everyone else.

I think its the Autobans in Germany or the Autoroute France, been on both hard to choose between them, but if I have to, then its the Autobans.

No way is it the Motorways in the UK.

Yep Im from the UK and the motorways over hear are Rubbish.

Cant speak for the freeways in the US, as I have never been on them.

I was going to say the Us interstates but here are a few reasons why Germany has a better highway system

1. Highways are twice as thick as our making them hardo to develop cracks
2. If a crack is found it is not covered in tar but rather REMOVED and replaced
3. Left lane = as fast as you want
4. Speed limit that changes with current traffic congestion
5. has bends and turns (lots of em) while our interstates are strait strait strait turn strait strait ect ect therefore make ing tired people nod off easier

The Autobahn is probably the most high-tech stretch of highway in the world. All the signs are computer-controlled, the speed signs are variable (for weather, crashes, etc. No 'official' speed limit per-se) and the pavement is impeccable. Not to mention the police fine people for tailgating, and do so based on the person's take home pay. (So a millionare can't get away unscathed for driving like a maniac.)

There is always an advisory limit of 130 km/h (81 mph) on the autobahn, with lower limits elsewhere.

lol Wilhelm, you guys are a disgrace, the E6 runs from portugal to Svinesund in northern sweden and it's motorway all the way, however when crossing the border it turns into a lousy shitty normal road with constant jams and accidents. Where are those oil money going huh?

huh????? germany has good highways? you have got to be joking me. what was the last time you were there? or did something change between this weekend when i went from cologne to switzerland?

The highways on the west side of germany are usually (always) in a bad condition (cracked, lots if holes, dirty, renovated the last time in about the 80's and plastered with speed limits). And who cares about the east. there is nothing there, just a load of people without jobs living in crappy barracks.

i would vote for spain. it seems that every single path to a lonely house is freshly paved with 4 lanes at least. it is a pleasure to dive there (if you have a car with air conditioning)

What about Ireland? We have the M50 and M1. Two motorways for the entire country - pretty fantastic huh? All one of them does is go around the edge of Dublin City, featuring a toll bridge that makes the average speed on the motorway at rush hour miniscule, and only has two lanes each way!!!
