I was not in the military, but I wear BDUs becuase they are comfortable and offer great protection when camping or riding the motorbike.

However, I too have wondered how the military folks feel about it.
BDU pants are comfortable (the blouse aka top is also) as hell and do offer good protection when walking through of shit (like playing paintball). They also make good work pants. I really don't like wearing them "around" because I don't like advertising. I have not been able to find a black pair made out of the same material/same cut though. If you're a skater fag or just wanna jock the military check out uscav.com.

I wear camo pants while hiking. I never found the shirts to be that comfortable, so I usually just wear a T-shirt and camo pants while in the woods.

The weekend warriors in blue jeans usually look down on anyone wearing such "grunge," but fuck em... they're comfortable, lightweight, ripstop and cheap. Takes a fair amount of effort to make them look dirty too. Perfect for when you're hiking with women who take it upon themselves to nitpick at your 50 miles from the nearest trailhead outdoor hygiene regime.

Yes USMC emblem marked MARPAT...

Wearing rank and badges on uniforms you do not rate is ILLEGAL...

If you see them often, carry a camera...

Ask them questions, get information, photograph them and thier license plate, then contact your local FBI office...

Forget the local law enforcement they wont expedite the issue and the FBI will be expecting you...

This is an issue in the USA and the FBI cares...

You dont seem like you are of age but if you were truly a USMC Riflemen and Scout Sniper then it is your DUTY to uphold the integrity of the US Armed Forces...

Lying about military service isnt illegal yet, but the uniforms with ranks/badges/awards is illegal...

these laws are more for "secondary offense" use, they won't lock you up if they see you walking down the street in your grandad's field jacket, but on the other hand, if you attempt to impersonate a GI, they will use each and every emblem as a seperate violation with which to smack your ass, you may only wear one uniform, but you may easily be hit with a dozen violations

kinda like failiing to signal a lane change is illegal, but they won't pull you over for it (unfortunately), but if you run a stop sign, then act like an ass when the officer confronts you, they will add that to the list

I think you are using the term "impersonate" too loosely. No one is going to do anything unless the civilian does something like try and sneak on base or file for VA benefits. Plus I'll bet 99% of them are out of regs anyway so there's a legal loophole. If the judges were to take the literal definition of "impersonate" they could bust people for having high 'n tights for impersonating a soldier while in civvies.

Before the days of Glasnost and Perestroika, my brother went on a school trip to Moscow/Leningrad and, on a trip to a black market, purchased a full Russian Army (tank regiment) uniform, plus some other unit badges for the hat.

Now living in Scotland, he says the Russian great coat now comes very useful in the winter.  Best coat he's ever bought.  And the uniform goes down well at fancy dress parties.
I have an old Russian issue tank commanders hat and jacket. Bear skin. I swear I cant walk more than 10m in
-15degree C without breaking a sweat.
I have camo kit because I often sleep in hedges when drunk. It is the best made clothing there is.
Where was this purchased, for i am interested

If you cant find anything on eBay/whatnot contact this store and maybe they can dig you one up. They have a huge military surplus section. The place is a fucking DRMO.

I like clothes, you know. I dig fabrics. One of my favorite clothing patterns is camouflage. Because when you're in the woods it makes you blend in. But when you're not it does just the opposite. It's like, 'Hey, there's an asshole'. But when you're in the woods you're like, 'Is there an asshole out here?' They look like trees.
You stole that off the guy on the ad on the Comedy Channel.

I ask because I've bough a bit for various reasons (all NZ/british DPM), and like to wear individual items for various reasons; the pants are good for all the reasons gone over here already, and the jacket is the best damned jacket I've ever had as far as keeping wind and rain out goes!

Probably the closest I've come to wearing badges etc is sewing some US army Staff Sergeant patches onto a shirt (the shop didn't have NZ SSgt patches at the time ) for a costume party and getting dogtags printed, but I wasn't exactly aiming for authenticity with that...ended up looking more like David Hasslehoff!  And yes there is a pic!

4.5-years in the Army and as long as your underwear does not show under your camo pants, it's fine by me.

This reminds me of BF2 and how people take it on themselves to report any padding, knife+pistoling, teamkilling, usage of vehicles, killing, going into a server, installing BF2, etc. No disrespect or anything but come on, calling the FBI because someone wanted to put a 4 star general insignia on his ACU?

EDIT: I wear cargo shorts with a camo pattern on t hem... comfortable and cool design IMO.

It is illegal...
But I was just giving the facts, dont be a baby and expect me to tell you what to do...
You need to use some common sense; I did say question them...
If they are pretending to have been in the military and are wearing a uniform with badges and awards they do not rate, this IS a crime...
A pretty serious crime in the US...
If they are just wearing some rank insignia and not pretending then just forget about it if you want...
If they are wearing badges and awards and not pretending let them know its illegal and that they shouldnt do it...

Doesnt matter if I care, again Im giving the facts...
Wearing a military uniform in public and lying about service, is a FEDERAL crime...
Wearing medals fraudulently, which are authorized by Congress for wear, is a FEDERAL crime...
You will get a fine above 4 digits and probation...
