.........we need to create a set of self policing rules for this section of the forums. What I mean is, we come up with a list of things we agree not to do, and if we break one, someone picks us up on it, and we apologise. Specifically, I'm think of things like:

1) Making a ridiculous one line post (i.e. "Let's just nuke all muslims". Everyone knows that's not gonna happen. The poster doesn't really mean it. It contributes nothing)

2) Use of stereotype ridicule of other posters (e.g. Liberal "hippies", "redneck" Conservatives)

3) Excessive QFE/QFTing. Occasionally, when someone makes a really good post, sure. Constantly, no. Make your own statement, or don't bother.

Yes, no? Thoughts, additions?

lol....well, the forum rules basically cover all of this ( try to contribute to the debate, no spamming, etc. ).

But if I tried to enforce them as strictly as your request implies, I'd have no social life, lose my RL job and very soon it'd damage my mental health, possibly leading to suicide.

I appreciate your concern, I just don't think it's enforcable right now.

you mean some kind of "gentlemen's agreement" ? hm, interesting concept, but don't you think this would lead to more flame wars and unrest among forum members ? Do you think we'd find enough people to contribute ?

Its a nice thought Bubbalo... but I think the section would be less fun if we all went along... Either ways, most of the people who bother to read stuff about Israeli foreign policy for example, I think are in a position to maintain a certain level regardless of their political orientation. The exceptions to this just make this forum a little spicier

An equally nice thought, but he's referring to the Debate and Serious Talk subforum, not the forums as a whole. I agree that there is a place for levity and idiocy on here, particularly if it gets the rest of the forum laughing it's collective ass off, but not in debate.

I think the forum rules do cover this quite well, but with the added statement "Read the thread, if you can contribute something intelligent to the debate then come on in, if not, STFU!" effectively!

You talk of a Utopian community. It's impossible. There will always be those who break forum rules or are arseholes and who won't care about any 'unspoken code.'
I don't mind if people flame a bit when regarding opinion, it's always good to know that a topic is taken seriously. Honestly those who are offended by the more minor stuff should try growing thicker skin. If it is truly and seriously offensive, point it out, (report button) and most likely one of the Mods will remove it for you.

Rest assured that if posts are useless or 'quote pyramids' occur or anyone's being an arsehole, they will be gotten rid of. Same goes for any re-offenders. I am yet to use my Ban button guys, and I'm hunting for my first trophy!

It wont work, It will lead to More flames no matter what. Remember, Not everyone here will take your or anyone Else's critique The way you meant it to be read, thus leading to fights and flames. You must figure in the age factor here also. Not everyone is our age and sorry to say, But the younger sect will blow it out of proportion.
