I think I know why Brazilians are generally so good at soccer. They are essentially a hybrid people as far as athletics are concerned. First in their gene pool we have those who were brought from Africa as slaves (The ones selected were the largest and strongest). We also have the Portuguese (As far as the earliest (European) settlers were concerned, the conquistadors were strong enough to man ships and survive long journeys). When the natives traveled over the Bering straight from current day Mongolia only the most persistent and physically capable could make it all the way through the Americas to Brazil.

So with these generally strong or fit and generally athletic genes mounting we get super footballers, who can be amazing even if they have beer bellies.

i think lifestyle plays more into it. Many children in Brazil are quite poor and have barely any money to amuse themselves with, however they can afford a football usually, you see poor children playing on the street barefoot football and i think this would help develop raw talent.

Just my thoughts really

See China + India, more people and more poor people, neither even qualified.

Also keep in mind that the funding for their teams far surpasses that of the Brazilian team.

Whats this outcry for brazil all of a sudden.  One of my friends is from brazil and he thinks its the greatest country in the world.  I had to hear about it especially after they lost to France in the world cup.  It amazes me that for being such a so-called great place, everyone i've met from there sure does complain alot.  And if their superhuman at sports, how come they lost to France.  Of all the countrys to lose to.......France.  LOL.  It makes me so happy.

Sure, but those countries don't have a traditional passion for futbol!  They're getting into it now, but it takes time to develop a tradition like Brazil's

Passion plays a key role. Brazil and the euros are good too because soccer to them is like baseball/football to us (USA that is)

I am going to have to disagree. India has consistently by far the greatest viewer ship of football per capita and there is no way to calculate actual playing but I am sure they would correlate.

What else do Indians have to watch anyways. Mute point.

Id argue it comes down to genetics especially when this passion level is higher per capita in the more heavily populated nation of India.

Cricket, they have far more viable options than Brazilians.

Have u ever been to either India or China? First of all, it's all about who you know, not how good you are in those countries. It's all about who can pay more to get on the team. IT'S ALL CORRUPTION.

I'm East Indian, i'm a fairly good soccer player, as is every single one of my relatives. I was there a few months ago, every kid I got to talk to was a decent soccer player, didn't matter what age. The problem is that there's so many people and so much corruption that they can't get a decent team together.

You could be right. Maybe thats why there are hardly any white dudes in the NBA. So we better be nice to black people because once they become intelligent on a whole as a race we are in trouble.

Well I don't want to extend myself so some posts are 50% correct and 50% wrong. Not all players are poor, some have quite a wealthy family, some don't. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago that might be true, but not now. For those who don't give a shit: don't give a shit. There isn't so much poverty as you guys may think. There are also Italian, Japanese, Chinese immigrants, and so on. I am an Italian descendant myself, and play soccer just for the fun of it. But I have other qualities like giving hell through BF2 servers.

Greatest viewership of football per capita?  Hmm...  got a source for that?  Also, note I said "tradition(al)".  How long have India had the "greatest viewership per capita"?  Not convinced.

Besides which, think of all a great tradition entails...  strong interest to the exclusion of most everything else (unlike India, with its primary passion being cricket, as you concede); a thriving domestic league on a par with any in the world; the exponential effects of early successes on the national psyche...

There are way too many variables to be factored in before you can start shooting off about genetic superfootballers.  Not to mention their "exquishit" performance at the World Cup...

If they're so 'great', why dont we see Brazil winning gold medals at the Olympics? Why aren't Brazil good at cricket? Why cant Brazilians win Golf championships? And why cant Brazilians win snooker matches?
