Of course that's easy for you to say. Second part of the extra time in your last game and one of the most important of your life. Only a couple of minutes away from either getting the world cup or finishing second (which is in my opinion worse than not even qualifying for the world cup tournament). Then there's some groping action by your opponent. And then he throws some insults at you to boot.

I'm sure the verbal exchange that took place was uncalled for, but you can't fucking do what zadane did.  He just showed the world that he's a piece of shit and would rather settle small scores on the field than try to earn a world title for his country.  Neither of them were right in the end.

I'm not condoning what he did, I'm just saying it's easy for someone not on that field to just judge someone as a piece of shit when the same thing might just have happened to anyone else.

The fact that you even ask the question "but why snap like that" followed by "couldn't he just have said fuck you and be done with it" indicates you haven't got the slightest insight into human male behaviour. You are taking an equation with 30 parameters, equaling 27 of them to 0 for your convenience, and then you're so coy as to remark that your outcome for this oversimplified 3 parameter equation, Y, does not equal Zidane's outcome, X. Which is logical because Zidane's outcome is based on the 30 parameter equation and it would be statistically improbable for those 27 parameters you considered to be 0 to really be 0.

This World Cup didn't deserve an end like this.

In the first half both team were playing good, with an advantage for Italy. In the second half and the extra time France were outplaying Italy but then Materazzi provoked Zidane and this unlovely incident happened



Zidane's fuses blow off and he got a deserved red card. Unfortunately a very sad way to finish the career, if you got the option to take the World Cup in your last game.

France were shocked after this incident, Italy didn't really realize that they were playing with one player more.

We all know the end, Italy won an undeserved game and the World Cup.

The only thing i would like to know is, what did Materazzi say? Either "Greets to your wife and to my kids" or "5 Million € for the headbutt, is this ok?"

what i was actually meaning is, that if materazzi insulted zidane, why would he knock him to the ground? couldnt he have actually settled it with words? especially SINCE it was his last game!
cmon, if sumone insults me, like for instance: "redhell u fucking nazi!" (no, im no nazi even though im german - for the people that still think every german is a nazi) do i beat the shit out of him? if i were in any type of world cup situation, would i risk being kicked from the field because the other one provoked me? NO! id actually tell him: "go to hell and leave me alone!" and ignore him! and then its settled.

Again you are oversimplyfying the situation. You are not there on the field playing that particular game at that particular point in your career. Saying you wouldn't do what he did under the circumstances is arrogant presumption on your part. If it would have been you out there you might have done exactly the same thing. Or you might have just walked away without saying anything. Or you might have gone insane and started bashing Materazzi's skull until he didn't breathe anymore.
Since when do people let common sense always guide their actions? Emotion is always lurking there beneath the surface waiting to be released, and it only takes the right kind of stress for it to be released so it can have a definitive influence on someone's actions.
Don't get me wrong, what Zidane did was wrong, but I also think it's wrong (that's a lot of wrongs in the same sentence) for everyone else to just call him a piece of shit now for doing that when half of them might have done the same thing. They should perhaps instead be a little happy that they haven't been tested in the same way Zidane was, only to have been found wanting, and therefor cannot be called pieces of shit by everyone else.

And BTW, I'd hardly qualify Zidane's headbutt as "beating up" Materazzi. A physical assault, yes, but also one under some restrain. It's the "when you feel u really want to kill someone but you know you shouldn't but still he pisses u off so much you just want him to shut the fuck up resulting in this overwhelming feeling to hit something out of pure anger and frustration and the first thing that pops into your mind is to clench your teeth together and pound your head against his chest" kind of headbutt.
