Well, true...though currently the majority of Americans do not agree with our government's actions, even though a lot of people on this particular site believe otherwise.

I believe the following:
-What the US did in the past is past - it determined current roles but is not the cause
-Other countries support most US actions
-The US consults with other countries continously and does not act in a vacuum
-The US is not conquering the world
-The US is not looking for sympathy
-The US government will use propaganda to support policies otherwise it would undercut the objectives
-Vietnam intensified the need to maintain US interests for reasons for global actions (war, trade, diplomacy)
-I also believe politicians are making tough decisions for me, and I have faith in them...mostly
-Invading Iraq was supported internationally...enough to send troops...although it was initially supported with a few objections...and has grown to many objections...such is the nature of war
-Iraq is the major reason why the US is being criticized
-The President did not send your troops to Iraq - your government could have decided to not send troops or aid in any way

And because I believe these things my opinion is that you cannot expect US international involvement on your behalf without including US interests.  It wouldn't happen otherwise.

I also believe that if asked, US would help another country out - but the aid will include some US interest involved...

The Telegraph should ask for the Embassy's supporting info for that poll, if they haven't already.

US foreign poicy is a ongoing diplomatic affair - decisions are not made in a vacuum without consultation.

I did not disagree when the decision was made for Iraq, because I have faith in the leadership.  Now, if I knew all of what I know now...I might change my mind and thought of other actions.

The current Iraq situation is one that requires the region to be stable before leaving.  What "stable" is I can't help you out with that - not my expertise.  Leaving now would be very bad - wanting it to be over now isn't the same as being able to extracate the US from the situation.  I hope it ends soon, but not likely.

I guess the whole argument surrounds whether you believe a country should take on the role the US has internationally - either its needed or its not.  And unfortunately...that's a debate topic not a reality.

Nothing to wonder about - it's an opinion.  There is a right to defend and well as criticize.

I don't want to sound like a smacktard or anything but the fact that you posted about some1 giving you -1 karma is clear proof that you do care. If you really don't care you would have just ignored the -1 and said nothing about it. You wouldn't even have looked at your karma score to see if it's changed.

No, our economy made us the dominant power in the world today.  Prior to WWII that economy was already one of the largest in the world, and the extent to which the US was vulnerable to attack, was only the time it took to redirect our economy to churn out military hardware.  WWII only changed the portion of GDP which was invested directly in our military (from almost none to a sizable amount).  Within a year of Pearl Harbor, the US was launching a ship every day.  No other economy in the world was capable of that, and the idea of Hitler coming across the Atlantic and 'kicking our asses as well' is laughable.  He couldn't even manage to kick ass across the Channel, it's unlikely he could have done it across an ocean.

Its time to realise that you are today what germany was back in '39. So do your thing, and the rest of us will do our thing. At least the germans weren't looking for sympathy while trying to conquer the world.
We are what Germany was in '39?  Not just wrong...woefully ignorant.  And, by the way, from a certain perspective, we are doing our thing.  And you are doing it with us.

An opinion poll doesn't necessarily reflect the truth.  I find it interesting that the UK, which has a higher crime rate than the US, thinks we are crime ridden.  We have a higher murder rate, but you folks have a higher crime rate.  I'd say about 50% of the problems cited in the poll are valid, but then most Americans would agree.  If you run into an American in the street, there is about a 70% chance (based on poll data) that person will agree Bush is a shithead.  So, give us a break: our Constitution, while very good at providing protection from the systemic abuses possible under a Parliamentary system, is less good at turfing out a horrible ass-clown on demand.  Unless we catch him with a smoking gun, we have to wait until the four years is up.

I was just curious to see what somebody had karma'd me for honestly. The only ones I really care about are either the ones that leave their name and the ones that leave some sort of viable reason . Honestly if I had -100000000 karma I wouldnt care, just as long as it doesnt affect my BF2 score then I can deal with somebody giving their 2 cents about how i'm a smacktard of a lazy fatass or whatever they feel like calling me. I actually never even looked to see if I had any karma until a few days ago. Oh and whoever wrote that I was a fatass please leave your name. At least if your gonna say something like that have the kahunas to leave your name. FYI i'm not fat. I'm pretty sure the US military frowns on that kinda thing, at least where i'm stationed at anyways.

I agree Hitler never wouldve made it outta England before we wouldve bombed the living shit outta his invasion forces. That is if he wouldve ever invaded England which I think most certainly wouldve failed.

Nice whittsend, at least you bothered to answer back instead of just giving me -1 like some other nameless chicken.
And of course it was your economy that made you the dominant power, an aconomy that favoured greatly from the demise of Europe's economy. Bear in mind that no german ever set foot or bombed the shit out of your land. As for what might have happened, well... nobody can tell for sure. And the only reason i refered to Hitler in the first place was because some ignorant kid was asking for sympathy simply because the USA decided to get involved in WWII. As if they could have done otherwise.

I have no idea who it is you mean when you say we're doing it with you... i'm not british you know

As far as polls are concerned, we both know anyone can manufacture one that suits him nowdays.

I must however stand by what I said about Germany and the USA doing the same thing then and now. I think there's only one thing a superpower can do if they do not want to lose their status and position. So I'm not blaming anyone really, after all I think any country in your position would have the exact same policy. All I'm saying is you cannot expect the people you enslave to love you.

Polls are often misleading, as is the press that takes them.

Off the wall, this YouGov poll is sandwiched between 'Seven out of 10 against amnesty for illegals' and 'Supermarkets not so ruthless after all' on YouGov.com's news marquee.

i dont trust a British website to have good information on the United States. How about we'll run the country however we want, or we may start polls on how much we dont like the British, and other useless pieces of information like that.

i would trust Wikipedia MORE, because people of all countries, cultures, races, and creeds can access it and add information.

on that topic though, United States media, citing Fox News and CNN, are extremely politically biast, and they rarely see the true side of what a politican is trying to say. for that, BBC has my vote for best news network

It's a poll on British opinion. I'd say the top selling broadsheet in the UK is pretty qualified to speak on how we feel about america. Go run your country any way you want, just don't moan about getting bombed and hated all the time..and try and leave other countries alone.

By the reasoning and the two posts you have given on complaining about receiving minus karma, I would say, you care.

And yes, I did -karma you, and I left my name, if you cared to look you would of known.

Whitsend, the main reason Hitler gained power was the Wall Street Crash. WW2 gave America the chance to drag itself out of poverty with munitions etc, which it did. America's economy inproved significantly from the start of WW2 to the end. Also, Hitler wouldn't have made it out of Europe. He was stretched too thin, and it was turning winter in Russia. he would have been eentually turned back anyway, America's aid just made it quicker.

Also, the only thing that can be gained from this is hat people suck, the big nations fear the smaller nations jealousy, even if its not there. The smaller nations fear the bigger nations will want to expand. Nobodyd wins.
