In the event that they do develop a workable solution in the future, is it possible for these two peoples to ever look past their animosity towards each other and live in peace?
Never gonna happen, and they can not live in peace.

I love how Israeli's keep trying compromise, and the Palestinians only solution is to destroy Israel, yet Israel keeps getting painted as the evil aggressor. Take the leash off the Israeli wardogs, let them solve the problem once and for all...........so I can snag one of them desert hotties for myself.

If you hadn't noticed Hamas had been observing a lengthy enough ceasefire without any sign of Israeli compromise until very recently (until the Israelis killed those kids on the beach in gaza to be exact). There hasn't been any compromise at all whatsoever since Sharon's proto-nazi party came to power, irrespective of who was the elected voice of the Palestinian people. It's just been land grabs, oppression and tit-for-tat killings. I say boycott Israel products and put dimplomatic pressure on Israel to pull their fucking horns in. I don't see extending their borders, cutting through farms, homes & streets with ruddy great walls, putting settlers on Palestinian land and restricting the economic development of the Palestinians as 'compromise', I have to say.

Israelis fight for it for religious reasons and reasons of self defence. Palestinians fight for it because that is and was where they lived and made their living for generations. Only some Palestinians fight for it for purely religious reasons. The only really important thing worth fighting from a religious point of view for the Palestinians is the Haram-al-Sharif in Jerusalem.

a mass exodus from Israeli settled lands aren't compromises? withdrawal from neighborhoods and districts aren't compromises? abandoning max security border plans inspired by prisons aren't compromises? If you hadn't noticed, the bus and cafe bombs never stopped, and they wouldn't need the ruddy walls if the Palestinian wouldn't keep lobbing homemade grenades from said neighborhoods. And yes those families on the beach got killed, by a stray arty round being used in retaliation against a Pal. leader that had orchestrated an attack that was in violation of the ceasefire. If those sorry excuses for human beings would just spend half as much time and energy with education and building a culture that has something to actually add to human society they would realize that they could live with the Israelis with open broders and free travel. Sharon's party is wrong for getting sick of trying to appease murderers? Funny how they are proto-nazi for taking a hard line approach toward their own self-preservation, but the poor put upon Palestinian are just freedom fighters for purposefully slaughtering women and children in restaurants. And if you think Palestine isn't making a Jihad out of this, you're not watching enough of your precious Al-Jazeera.

Mass exodus from Israeli-settled lands. I assume you mean the Gaza Strip. A piece of land that Israel were long in contravention of international law by occupying. This was not co-ordinated with the Palestinians in any way shape or form and the strip itself is still essentially a massive concentration camp, with limited access to the outside world. What kind of economy can survive without a seaport or airport (both of which the Israelis deny them) or relatively easy access to friendly neighbouring countries? The reason this shithole of a piece of land was vacated was because if it had to be subsumed into the greater state of Israel then a guaranteed jewish majority in Israel out into the future would be threatened. Very compromising of them. You seem to gloss over the collective punishment administered on the Palestinians for the acts of the few in the Strip and other such atrocities. I believe citizens of your own country died at the hands of Israelis attempting to bulldoze peoples homes.
The Wall: Do you think it would have been too much to ask to build the wall around the internationally accepted 'borders', i.e. the green armistice line? Or even to be mindful not to cut farms in too or require that houses be bulldozed for it? I'd have no problem with a wall - just not on Palestinian land. It's annexation by unilateral stealth.
Sharon is a Zionazi - for being idealogically aligned with those who wish to see a greater land of Israel all the way to the Jordan river (and probably beyond if they could manage it). He and his cronies said themselves that the ILLEGALLY annexed half of Jerusalem and the massive ILLEGAL settlements at Ariel and Ma'ale Adumim would remain part of Israel FOREVER. Nice.
You're in a dreamworld: how can Palestinians concern themselves with education and economy when Israel has continued to strangle the viability of successive Palestinian governments. When your commute to work can take up to 11 hours I hardly think we're all gonna be lining up to invest in Palestine. Israel doesn't want Palestine to work - it is easy to demonise them in the international media by keeping them suppressed, making their dreams of a greater Israel closer all the time.

I didn't blame Israel for EVERY palestinian shortcoming. Guilty of reading into something what you want. The Palestinians have a history of shooting themselves in the foot too. Try not to misinterpret what I say.

Skanking - it does make sense - if they held onto a tiny settler population in Gaza they would have had to absorb over a million arabs into Israel - no chance of a 'Greater Israel'. The West Bank is sparsely populated and they can carve out convenient bits for themselves by building walls into the west bank and around the settlements. The side effect will be to make a non-contiguous Palestinian state (like it isn't non-contiguous already!) that will be economically unviable. Emigration from Palestine will loosen Palestinian grip on the land and Israel will get their wishes by stealth. Check this projected barrier route.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/06/middle_east_enl_1143650021/img/1.jpg

That looks fair and viable doesn't it? Just put a wall around every Palestinian inhabited place and take the rest.

Look it's like this - both parties commit crimes against each other on a daily basis but Israel are the folks who are fundamentally wrong and have commited a major injustice against the Palestinians that must be atoned for.

Hey I'm saying that's what they normally do and it doesn't make tactical sense not to in this case so I was expressing how perpelxed I was that they have kept him alive. 'Inciting bloodshed' - what is this the 'Al Qaeda Forum' or something....who the hell am I 'inciting'?

There's no doubt you implied that they should have killed the poor fellow. Saying otherwise is insulting our intelligence.

I think you know perfectly well, being the calculated man you [probably] are, that keeping him alive does make tactical sense. They reason they kidnapped him in the first place, is to force Israel to release Palestinian terrorists from prison.

They must be fairly familiar at this stage with the fact the Israeli government and military are pretty ruthless and intransigent when it comes to dealing with the Palestinians. If they think they can win concessions off the Israelis with their tactics then they must be stupid.

Round up the Palestinians and ship them to Syria.  Israel has done enough for them, why they would allow the Enemy to have access to their borders and people is beyond me.  Let the middle east go nuts, bring the radicals out, and let Isreal destroy them.

Why does everyone put kid gloves on with the Islamo Creeps.  If Christians or Jews went around saying and doing the shit Islamist do, the liberals would be building concentration camps for 'em.

They should build a portable floating island on the ocean for jews this way they can have some land and stop stealing. My experience with jews is that they fight for a fucking dime on a dollar like a mexican dog for a bone.

I don't think so. Israel has a very strict "no-negotiations-with-terrorists" policy. If the IDF doesn't find him, the poor kid is dead meat.
