1. The obsession with rights at the expense of responsiblities - "ooo, I broke into your house and cut myself breaking a window - I want compensation!"
2. Immigration - not that it isn't necessary; according to the latest figures we need about 200,000 to make up the shortfall in birth rates but we're not selective enough. Unless of course the criteria is tribal warlords, drug barons and knife wielding ethic groups who hate each other. There's been a 37% increase in knife crime where I live in the last 2 years - apparently I'm racist according to the local council if I draw any connection to it to the 2,000 kurds that have moved into the area in the last two years. We want doctors, teachers, researchers - we want people who are willing to build a life here and make a contribution to the nation that has adopted them. Is that too much to ask?
3. "Multiculturalism" - bollocks; as an English person I'm marginalised and demonised my the intellectual elite as a "yob", "beer-obsessed football hooligan". Expressions of my national pride are viewed as inappropriate and insensitive. Being Welsh, Scottish or Irish is fine as is any other nationality. There are more St Patrick's Day celebrations than people who know when St George's Day is. It hardly surprising people like the July 7th bombers find alternative cultural identities when being English is consistently equated with being a racist thug. Making an equation like that is no different than saying all muslims are suicide bombers. This is in part causing the rise in popularity in the BNP, as repellant as that is.
4. The burgeoning underclass - call them what you will; chavs, charvers, townies, scavvies but don't call them working class. I'm working class as were my parents. They are not because they don't fucking work. They are the first generation of kids whose parents have never worked and their ideas and attitudes are born of that. They believe that, somehow, all that they ever wanted will land on their laps eventually - be it a lottery win, TV stardom or just the state bailing them out. Hey - it worked for Jade Goody and that twat Michael Carroll. Don't want to get a job though - might miss their audition for X-Factor. In the mean time employers across the country have to turn to immigrant labour because the local workforce aren't interested in getting their hands dirty.
