I think its OK for indigenous peoples of Alaska and Antarctica for food, clothing and oil. But i have to say, i see no good in commercial Whaling at all. In this day and age, countries and peoples with alternate means of food and shelter and fuel have NO legitimate need to kill whales.

Whales are animals and part of the food chain
humans are animals and part of the food chain
there are still tribal peoples whose livelihoods depend on whales and clubbing cute lil baby seals, which are all part of the food chain

Should they be hunted to extinction? no
Should we use the most humane means at our disposal? yes
I personally have no use for whale, so I won't be out killing any, I do kill deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, dove, and other such cute disney creatures, but I also eat them
If you don't need a whale, don't kill one

why dont they drug the whales then kill them, wouldnt that be more humane then blowing up a small part of them and waiting for them to struggle there way to terminal blood loss.

"er, that'll be a tonne of sedatives for one whale please" DO YOU KNOW HOW BIG THEY ARE? It would take a whole lot more than to sedate a human. What they do anyways, is they use and electric harpoon, which is designed to kill the whale fast. If it dies slowly, hte meat becomes poisoned and o use to humans. But the blubber is still there for the taking.
