I am sure most of you are aware of the speculation that north Korea is going to test a new missile that has the ability to strike Japan and parts of the US (AK). My question is this, do you think they are doing this  to gain bargaining chips with the rest of the world? Perks from other countries are often given out to other countries who would like them to cease threatening activity.

So what do you think the motivation behind this is?

Imho its the same reason that has driven russia and the us to produce thousands of nuclear warheads. I mean a handfull of those could bomb the world back to stoneage, yet they produced in those high numbers. Its to add some punch in your statements/demands when it comes to a quarrel with other nations.

This is going to be yet another hypocritical sham from Western governments in that they'll do all they can to stop this, whilst at the same time building, testing and stock piling nukes in their own country because they allowed to as "the good guys that would never use them".

Motivation enough would be the constant rumblings coming from western media and the US about them being a rouge state that is on the "list". If I thought my country was on a list for invasion/sanctions/medaling I would hope it would developer a nuke deterrent to stop it.

Its certainly a worry!  I'd say its there as a detterant against perceived US meddling.  I doubt they'd use it on SK, Japan and US certainly but not SK.
