Seeing as I have a 14 year old daughter, it looks like I got out of Colorado at just the right time.

I wonder why judges agree to dumb things like that, I would like to hear the argument that made them agree to this law, and there are alot of other little and large laws that are stupid and judges agreed to them, what really gets me are those stupid civil cases - ex. the old woman with the coffee at McDonalds - that was ridiculas - ppl wonder why we have to pay high cost of things like insurance - its just unbeleivable

As the article points out, there is a difference between common-law marriages and traditional ceremonial marriages. I believe you must live together for 7 years to be considered married under common law, but I may be off. I don't really see this as setting a precedent in Colorado for teens to marry, as it won't be recognized until they are at least 22, which gives plenty of time for them to get out of the marriage. That being said, I would not want to see any grown man with a 15 year-old-girl entering into any marriage, common-law or not.

By the wording the reporter used it sounds like the Judges were doing their job correctly. It's not a judges place to "make" laws, only to "uphold" existing laws. If Colorado still recognizes "english common law" then that's where the problem is.
I'd think the numbskulls would realize that english common law also allows forced child labor starting at any age and they're opening an ugly can of worms... but I'm surprised there's no "federal" law on age of marriage... I guess they were only concerned about stopping the child labor, and those laws didn't happen until 1938. Looks like my favorite, the 9th ammendment, rules here. If there's no law on the books saying you CAN'T do it, it's legal.

Over here marriage is possible at the age of 16, but only with the parents' consent. The only ones I know of to actually make use of this age limit are Antwerp's Orthodox Jewish community.
