Which sect should be pursued, as per basis in their furthering of human society?

Genetics - the science of genes, heredity, and the variation of organisms

Cryonics - the practice of cryopreserving humans or animals that can no longer be sustained by contemporary medicine until resuscitation may be possible in the future

Neurosurgery - surgery on any part of the nervous system

Cosmology - the study of the physical universe considered as a totality of phenomena in time and space

Pharmacology - the study of how chemical substances interact with living systems (specifically, pharmaceuticals [chemicals having medicinal properties])

Biotechnology - the manipulation of organisms to do practical things and to provide useful products

Nanotechnology - the design, characterization, production and application of structures, devices and systems by controlling shape and size at the nanoscale

Genetics, cryonics, neurosurgeryy, pharmacology, and biotechnology are all pretty much having to do with the promotion, sustainment, and restoration of health. Biotechnology deals with stem cells, cloning and the like. Genetics, in such established contexts, has to do with manipulating genes.

Nanotechnology has a huge array of hypothetical use, from regulating temperature or monitoring of vital life signals to establishing a cloak of invisibility (extremely diverse).

The leverage that propulsion has is already widely known and, as I would think, common knowledge.

*I posted this before when I was revising it and someone negatived me for a "stupid bs poll". LoL. What an idiot.

*Some dumbass also negatived me because he didn't realize that, to some people, many options may be applicable to the question. lmao. People are just so fucking stupid. ("the field of stupid polls that have all options available ")

I voted Nanotechnology because the  technology that fields creates will revolutionize all of the others.

nanotech and genetics for me, since you need to know a shit load about human genetics to succesfully travel through space without dying in flight.

I read an article not too long ago in Discover about nanotechnology. Looks promising.

What the hell? Where did you get that dude? Genetics is a subsection of bioinformatics. Biotechnology is the study of potentials behind microorganisms, whereas genetics is the sequential breakdown of a specific, core area of life (and how it can be alterred for practical utilization today--for instance, directing certain genes to be either expelled from a strain of code, or deactivated).

I think Bio-tech will revolutionize the world as much as nano-tech.  It really depends on where the breakthroughs occur.  Bio-tech has the potential to replace so much of our largely mechanical world.  I guess, we will have to wait and see.

Nanotech... If they ever figure out how to build the things... I have a friend, his older brother is studying nanotech at the University of Adelaide (I think... The Uni he is at is in Adelaide anyway...) and apparently building the little buggers is difficult.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

The development and progression of Cosmology is more about a resolution of deep-set, unfound questions. Some answers could be extremely impacting in that they may be so roundabout, basic, or complex, but it really wouldn't have the types of effects that the furtherance of all these other fields could have. O_o

Nanotechnology, because we really haven't done anything with it yet, and once something gets applied humanity makes a leap (e.g. gunpowder, electricity, computers etc.)

Genetics, when they can figure out exactly what genes control every aspect of human beings they will modify babies to be born smarter, healthier, live longer, less violent (or more violent for combat , sports , scrabble, etc..)
and breed some super intelligent people and they'll work out how to build nano machines and everything else.
sorted !

Genetics and Nanotechnology, considering what we have achieved so far in the past 100 years, we have progressed fairly quickly, think what we could achieve in the next 100 years?

OK people, we have an intelligent poll/discussion starting up here, lets try not to wreck it in the first page.  Xietsu go sit in that corner, psprpg go sit in that corner.  I'd like to run across one section today that isn't a fucking firing range.

I voted for Genetics and Nanotechnology.  Genetics in the case for trying to find and cure genetic diseases and defects, nanotechnology because it looks incredibly promising if we can get that "major breakthrough" sometime soon.

Just think if you had a clone you could send it/him (what do you call a clone) to work while you stay at home and play bf2 . *note to self start collecting your own DNA*

I voted for terrestrial propulsion as it has already made the larrgest impact (negative) that will ever affect our lives.

No matter what advances are made in those other fields, nothing they could do or offer will outweigh the fact that our planet is dieing from our selfish use of fossil fuels and the polution created by the engines that run our world.  This is the way it will always be no matter where the human race ends up.

Not trying to sound holier-than-thou, I use more than my fair share I am sure, just stating the obvious answer.

I chucked that under 'Cosmology'. IF we make advances far enough there, then, well, we'll be gods. I mean it in the most accurate sense.
