So the World Cup is on the TV now, so I've been watching some of the coverage.  It's not covered well here, unless "se habla espanol" on the spanish TV station, so I haven't been exposed to it much.

What I'm trying to figure out is the stats - besides goals, shots & saves - what are some other stats tracked?

In other words, if I were to pick up a paper tomorrow what stats can I compare, besides those above, to figure out which team played better and lost, is a defensive rather than offensive team, etc...from the stats?

Thanks in advance.

There loads now, something inherited from American sports coverage. Depends how in depth you wanna look, main ones to start with are percentages for possession, pass completion. Number of tackles, dribbles, then stuff like territory (how long the ball has spent in certain areas of the pitch and who had it), there are a lot more and probable some obvious ones that I've missed (its late).
