Never thought I'd be saying this, but am I the only one noticing the abundance of AA on the new maps?  On a map like Road Rage, if you have a half-smart enemy, you're not going anywhere in an aircraft.  Kind of ruins the fun, IMO.  I mean, they give us some semi-cool aircraft, like the Little Birds and A-10, but they make the A-10 slow as a freakin cargo jet and the Little Birds flip over 1/3 times when you're trying to land, and now they add more AA to the maps?

If they just took out a few AA on the maps it would really even it out.. but on Road Rage and Midnight Sun in particular, there's a mobile or stationary AA every 200 yards.  It kind of reminds me of the immediate post 1.2 days, where any old noob could just stick the AA up in the air, fire blindly, and get a kill on something.

Not a problem that would ruin the game, but it does get kind of annoying, for me anyway.

I love mobile AA.  I got a couple of my friends so pissed at me that they were trying to hunt me down in the attack chopper last night.  Mobile AA is one of the hardest vehicles to play in the game.  You have to look for Air Threats as your primarily good for killing them.  But, you also have to watch out for infantry, armor, and at mines as well.  The moblie AA takes a lot of skill to use effectively.

well, I haven't played AF yet, but I suppose it is EA's attempt to try to promote more teamplay between air units and ground units.

My favourite vehicle is the Linebacker! The MEC and PLA AA's you can't see a bloody thing infront of you! That damn radar dish. Also as the guns are on the side you can't shoot what's infront of you.

AA makes the AF maps balanced between armor and aircraft. You can say "I want to whore the AA" or "I want to whore the A-10," but either way, you won't stay alive in those vehicles with the counterpart to hunt you down. No 80-0 rounds for jetwhores in AF.

its a nice reversal,
all other bf2 versions the jets dominate ... in AF they dont

so all you jet whores , have a nice day you hear ?

interesting, yes, but what do you say about the squad that's just trying to use the Little Bird for infantry type tactics, and can't even get past the first flag on Road Rage, because of the camping enemy mobile AA's?  This happened to me just a few hours ago, and it's the most aggravating thing.

Finally AA vehicule are worth to play... specially on Harvest and Midnight sun where you can hide under the trees...

I really enjoy hunting down little birdswith my big AA gun...

AF turned the world upside down, after the chopper whores we'll have now AA whores. LOL.

It's fair.

ive played both side of the line and have to say that mobile aa should be removed from AF. stationary can stay. Its makes flying nearly impossible and it would only be balanced without it on these maps. some have said the flares are bugged on AF but i think its just coz the planes are so slow you just cant dodge any AA locks with em.

its way too easy to rack up kills with mobile aa on AF...nerf
and add the muscle car to road rage!

Stationary AA is aim to jets,AF jets dont have missiles. So if we will remove mobile AAs from AF it would be worse situation than in core BF2.

No, the jets in AF are 3 times slower, and their bombs and machine guns suck.  It won't be nearly as bad.  I mean, you can shoot those things down with a freakin scout chopper.  Pretty funny sh*t

Well I've played a few hours of the new maps, mostly in a plane and apart from at the start I haven't had any real problems getting a gold medal at the end.  I think maybe a few people are having a problem because they are failing to adapt to the new hardware and what it is capable of.  Unlike flying a J10 you actually have to look and actively seek ways to take out the AA etc.  For example, instead of flying straight down the road on OP RR, take a route down the side of the map and high, then look towards the hills etc where you expect to find AA, line up up and boom!  Take a low route home to your Base along the water and you'll be safe from enemy fire, although you constantly need to watch your back for enemy jets because there is no missile beep warning that one is on your tail

Hope this helps.  If all else fails, just try not to make yourself a target by flying too far into enemy territory.  The Jets role is to expand your boundaries, not necessarily to fly as far into enemy territory as possible- you're just asking for trouble like that.

Without mobile aa, these maps would just be more guaranteed wins for jet-whores.  Rack up another gold star, a team victory and a couple of hundred points per round.

As a ground-pounder, I've had enough of the vanilla Bomberfield 2 maps where it's a matter of avoiding the artillery strikes and jets.  AF actually gives us maps where we can survive for more than a minute without getting bombed into oblivion.

Rock on mobile aa!!

Okay, well I guess there's not enough support to start a petition.  I'll just take spoonfuls of BS and take it like a man and be pissed.  Oh well, what the hell

I play AA a lot at the moment and i have to say that little birds are maybe to easy to shoot down, I did 19 kills yesterday, only Air targets... but there was a good jet pilote I couldn't get down...

It's true that flying is getting harder... a good thing. Fly low, hide behind trees, avoid AA guns. It's getting realistic. Real AA have in fact a really higher range that BF2 AA...

Those new maps are really not good for fly training... but for good pilotes.

Hum, by the way... I got kicked for killing everything in the sky, they wanted to fly and I wanted to defend my team from planes and chopper whores.

Nothing wrong with mobile AA, but the fact stands that locking on to a helicoptor ensures instant kills. Those missiles hardly miss and it takes little effort to kill. You think people use the main cannon to take down enemy aircraft? It's fire 4 stingers and forget.

Fly lower or around the AA vehicle? Take another flag instead?

The bombs are the same as regular jets in BF2, and the machine guns are deadly if used right. A buggy is blown in a second by the A10 and that gun.

I use the main cannon quite a lot... to finish the job.

Thats how I play AA:

Wait to lock, firea stinger and wait for the flairs, unlock and relock, fire stinger til he dies...

I fire with the gun at the same times, just in case...

You can also shoot little bids down only with the cannon...

In the 1700's and 1800's in central Europe, there was something called the Balence of Power.  It was a system of allies that kept the very powerful France from dominating the area.

Similarly, in AF there are jets without AA missiles, so we fill in the gap with limitless ground AA.  If you are a half-smart pilot, you will pay attention to reports and know where the AA is, and either avoid it or bomb the hell out of it.  A tip: the best time to hit them is when they are moving, because they are probably not looking toward the sky.

I can't believe that someone mentioned 'starting a petition' about this.

Yes, there's lots of AA on the AF maps.  There needs to be.  If there wasn't the 'planes would dominate the place, as they'd be nearly unstoppable.  It doesn't matter that they're slower than the vanilla jets, you still won't be shooting them down too often with the .50 on your buggy or whatever.

I've been AA-vehicle whoring for quite some time.  Long before AF came out.  And yeah, it's a bit easier to get kills on Road Rage than it is on, say, Daqing.  But honestly, I think that's simply because the pilots haven't figured it out yet.

The maps are more than big enough for you to avoid the AA range, so go around them.  Don't attack the areas where there are AA sites or vehicles.  Or, better yet, try TEAM PLAY.  Coordinate your attacks, so that your teams armour takes out the enemy AA, clearing the way for you to sweep in and bomb their armour in return.

And remember this:  there's no point in being an AA-whore if the enemy aren't plane-whoring.  In the past, I've had rounds of Daqing (my previous favourite for AA-vehicles) where I've stymied the enemy aircraft so much they stopped using them.  Once that happens, you end up in a PGZ-95 while they're in M1A2's, and you lose.

So, if the amount of AA is bothering you, either fly better or *shock-horror* take a ground vehicle.  Tanks are quite useful, y'know.

He he he, yes. I use  more my ears than my eyes for playing AA... when a plane is coming behind you or from above you should really pay atention to what you hear...

By the way, those new A10 are much more silent than other jets...

Hehe, I have to laugh a bit when I read this thread.  AA finally gets an even playing field and the flyboys are disgruntled.  Not unexpected, but still funny.

Yes, pilots now have to use stategy to get from point A to point B and pay attention to threats that might chew them up.

Is AA invincible?  Not by a long shot.  You just have to work with your commander and the rest of your team to negate or diminish their effect.

I hopped in a mobile AA the other night in AF and owned for a while.  Why?  Because pilots are used to flying with impugnity - they never had any natural threats in the game.  I saw several of them get quite frustrated.  However, if the opposing commander was worth his salt he'd have a big red X on my head and direct a chopper or even an A-10 to squash me like a bug.  A chopper DID find me and one time he squashed me and one time I blew him into small pieces - just like Zarquawi.

A tip to you Warthog drivers - use the altitude, terrain features, and cloud cover to your advantage.  If you mask your presence until the last possible moment to strike then there is a VERY narrow window of opportunity for the AA to nail you.  No, you won't rack up your kills as quickly.  Maybe you'll only get 2 kills for every death - but now you're more on a level playing field with everyone else and forced to be part of the team.

Game on!

To the person who gave me a -1 karma.  Your the noob.  I know I can't fly as well as some people so I use the weapons at my disposal to even things up.  Get a life if you don't like how I play the game.

AF is greatly balanced, theres more AA to worry about but on the other hand enemy pilots dont have missiles. and the 4 bomb drop runs as well as effective use of flares means pilots still rack up good scores. just not any of that 100 0 j10 BS.
