China will be the biggest economy and the second superpower and there is little the US can do about it, especially as (a) both are members of the WTO and must adhere to WTO trade rules and adjudications; (b) China is a nuclear power with the largest army in the world; (c) their 'communist' government can drive through projects and policies that would not be allowed in a western democracy; (d) their domestic market is mind-bogglingly colossal and (e) there are several anti-US governments but few anti-China governments.
The reason why there are few anti-China govts?
Money. Simple. China can offer very, very, very lucrative trade deals. Something the US is unwilling/unable to do.

The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

I guess it's time to immigrate and infiltrate into a position of high power in China!
I think China produces cheaper because of the low wages of the workers. At the same time few people get very rich. It is a commonplace the gap between the poor and the rich widens, and in China it leads to trouble, I think. With their growing economy, civil unrest will hamper the growth. And in other news today: Chinese government acknowledged that damage made by environmental problems last year adds up to $ 200 000 000 000, coincidentally this is just as much as the worth of economical growth last year.=OBS= EstebanRey wrote:
..World's biggest economy? If China's economy continues to grow at it's current or near to current rate, they will overtake the US withing a few decades. Do you think America will allow this to happen as all the reports suggest there is "anxiety in the US" about this.
To me, it suggests poor World relations if the US can't champion China's success and is also highly contradictory as Bush will publically say he wants poorer nations to develop (just as long as they don't develop too fast and overtake you eh Bush?).
Your thoughts.................
And let's not talk about rampant corruption, which leads to minor rebellions as well.
In my opinion, a fast growing economy in a country with repressive government will lead to troubles. The people will demand their share of wealth, and not be willing to give their all for their government. You have to educate your people if you want to keep up with the western world in terms of innovation and technology, Being the source of low quality toys just ain't enough for the future.
Why not let them? Why does USA have to be the biggest and baddest?
I blame communism. But their high population is gonna mean they need more resources, later on in the world china will be starving like it did during the "great" leap forward.Spark wrote:

Why even ask? How hard is it to understand that those of attained power tend to make efforts for retainment of such. With power comes control. If another party usurps us (in our role), who are we to defy them (not to say that they will try some massive attempt at world domination, but moreso that manhandling can be done without repercusson)? Regardless, it is not proper to identify the coming expansion of would-be power-holders as ascertainment of super power status, but as a collective, international advancement towards becoming great powers. As time progresses, say these nations proceed in a situation promoting trends of economic advancement, there will merely be a larger sect of competition within this realm. I think the term "super power" had been most applicable during the era of the Cold War (and, for a time now, the general post-Cold War era), when there were virtually no competitors to the two.
Hopefully the growing economy will lead to a more free society. China is one of the shittiest countries in the world if you think about their government. It really sucks.
Even if the US wanted to, I don't think there is anything they could actually do to stop that from happening.
Would it matter much ? Not really. Economic relations are multilateral. They ususally stabilize relations between different nations. The big national economies on this planet all depend on each other anyway.
I can't even imagine why anyone would want to go to war against China to try to make sure they do not become the world's largest economy.
Economy on that global level is like the evolution. You can't control it. It just happens.

Since when do China's weapons not work? AK's may not be the most advanced weapons in the world, but they are solid, and reliable. That's why they're used by people who don't want to spend significant amounts of time/money on weapons/cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

The US invade mainland China? That's the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard. Do you have any idea of the number of people capable of fighting that China has within it's borders?cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

But this is called a hypotheticl. As in, if, hypothetically, people refused to buy from those companies, what would happen.cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

Since chinese ppl are all for the "motherland" so they would defitnantly support companies in their own mainland.Bubbalo wrote:

About US invading china... possible if u blow the shit out of their bases, u do know that a lot of chinese ppl want democrocy, tien an men square anyone? when i was in beijing w/ my school for MUN conference, we asked our guide about what happened in tien an men.
"what happened during the protests" asked my teacher
"what protest" replied guide
"the protest in this square"
"oh, u mean the protest against the feudilists?"
Im not saying chinese weapons are shit, they are. their jets couldnt even outrun a 30yr old good year jet. the AK's are ok, but their vehicles... thats a different story...
there was a chinese military parade were all the soldiers beared silver AK's, but when they were asked to go to the firing range, they swiftly changed back to normal AK's... i agree AKs are great weapons, the main reason is that it can be used by any moron in the world.
back on topic:
Since the US loves to spread democracy and wants good bussiness in the asian market, it would be smarter to outsource jobs in india since they have: cheap labour, a large population, smart ppl (especially in math) and is democratic. whilst china, the ppl are really ill-educated, a lot of commies.
I think if the political powers that be truly wanted to suppress China with such a move, they could really justify it to quite a degree, but the thing I really am uncertain about is the role our debt with China would play.
Concerning China and their military...I can't really remember if I saw a reference here, but I heard about China having "blueprints" to a new age jet very similar to the F-22 Raptor being produced/entering service within the US military. Anyone have a recollection of such info., if not where to find it?

The problem is with China is that the mininum wage is so low & that if they raise it no body is going to want then to manufacture stuff for them. And why are you talking about USA invading China? I think that would be plain out stupid. If China was likely to become the number 1 super power, the USA would attempt to stop them recieving resources there country has none of and they wouldnt go straight and start blasting, they would stop other countries from becoming allies with China. Which would be hard for China to become completely independant.
U mean F16 thats the j10, in fact J10 is worst than F16 in real life. i think the F22 ur talking about is a photoshopped pic of a real f22 w/ just chinese stars on it and that kind of shit. i always knew china was the worlds largest copy right violaterXietsu wrote:

No, they are blue prints. No photoshopped picture. Believe me, it is quite hard to confuse the F-16 and the J-10, and I would never make such a mistake. Anyways, the reference even noted the F-22 O_o.
Well, in theory you are quite right. But then IRL, sorry. Walmart for instance consistently expand their market in China.. then "importing them back to the US". We in Sweden have a similar situation.. Thats the new rules of the market Game. Just suck it in and like it!!!=OBS= EstebanRey wrote:
There's hundreds of things the US could do. They could limit the about of Chinese imports for a start with some excuse about protecting American manufacturersMajor_Spittle wrote:
America has no power over this, the world will always buy plastic doggy poop from the cheapest manufacturer. Well I guess the US could Nuke 'em, but that wouldn't be in the spirit of free trade.
Only thing to do - dont buy.. but then again, as another just said before.. the cheapest price usually decides what we'll buy?
So McDonalds and Coca Cola for everyone.. made of products from China?

Hmm, maybe from a Taiwanese point of view India could be called a democracy. Although caste system is cancelled de jure, it still exists and affects peoples lives, mostly by preventing poor people having chance to a decent life. Majority of Indians are unschooled, as well as there are highly educated people in China. Most Indians are very religious, which is never a good thing, as history has shown us.cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

This is NOT a hymn to China.
Cyborg-Ninja: Just wondering before I say my pieceL (DON'T take offense to this) Are you that anti-china because you're taiwanese?
I hope it goes even better for china. It just fun to see more superpowers than just US & Russia. And for some reason I have always liked asian people, we have some of those who is living here and all of them are friendly. Hope it coud be the same for the middleeastern immigrants we have here also.....
