..World's biggest economy?   If China's economy continues to grow at it's current or near to current rate, they will overtake the US withing a few decades.  Do you think America will allow this to happen as all the reports suggest there is "anxiety in the US" about this.

To me, it suggests poor World relations if the US can't champion China's success and is also highly contradictory as Bush will publically say he wants poorer nations to develop (just as long as they don't develop too fast and overtake you eh Bush?).

Your thoughts.................

America has no power over this, the world will always buy plastic doggy poop from the cheapest manufacturer.  Well I guess the US could Nuke 'em, but that wouldn't be in the spirit of free trade.

There's hundreds of things the US could do.  They could limit the about of Chinese imports for a start with some excuse about protecting American manufacturers

China has 4x more people ... of course they're going to have a huge economy.  Same with India.  Are you saying the US is going to nuke/attack a country in order to keep their "edge" ??  HAVING nuclear weapons keeps good neighbors.  USING nuclear weapons does not.

I welcome it.  Competition rewards the smartest and hardest working.  We Americans have grown lazy and in the grove of time, you reap what you sew.

Well, there's been some rousings about high up nationalists wanting to maintain the framework of that of the Superpower, although I think that's because China has been increasing military spending by like...10% every year. It's been supposed that, by the year 2050, China's GDP will overshadow ours (well, duh Yoo-Esses) by 20%. Unless some seriously unforeseen event takes place, I don't think that this dwarfing will be stalled. Limiting Chinese imports is most definitely not going to happen, as it would probably hurt more than help. A lot of companies depend on cheap Chinese goods man.

*Competition isn't always good if those at the helm of such opponency have unclear motives and perspectives within the global scale.

Limiting Chinese imports would slow their growth, but not stop them from overtaking the US economy.  They can manufacture many things far cheaper than the US, thus the rest of the world will buy these items from China.  If the US stopped buying plastic parts for Cars and such from China, the cost of US cars would go up and not compete as well with Korean, European, and Japanese cars.  Same goes for cell phones, computers, TVs, etc.....

They are also becoming the greatest consumers in the world as their economy grows, if we stopped buying from them, they stop buying from us, our economy hurts.

The WORLD would have to embargo China, the US can only hurt itself with a unilateral Embargo.

If the US wants to stay an Economic and World power it must do it through developing new technologies and not shipping the technologies off to other countries to be produced.  Unfortunately this is not happening  (Companies don't care about the US and control our Government) and the US will soon loose the world status it has Enjoyed since WW2.  US has only been a Superpower for a short time, Our Economic practices, Budget, and Immigration policies need to be reformed to start reflecting the futures outlook for America or when bad times start they will cause problems that will compound quite quickly and the country will have no time to adjust to keep itself out of big doo doo.

And yes, Doo Doo is a technical term.

The US will end like britain. For a long time they will deny the fact that they aren't a superpower until people can't point them out on a map

The best thing the US could do to hurt China's economy is interfere with its oil supply.  Getting China to adopt environmental initiatives would also hurt it during its current developmental phase.

Yeah china would be kinda fucked there... but the US imports 1 billion dollars worth of chinese goods each year, u cut those imports, then china lost its biggest customer. the US companies can do their manufacturing in india.

India is nothing compared to China.  If it does become a problem.......let's just say that a lack of navy is only a problem if there's an ocean between you and your enemy.

Uh, my point was that if someone somehow managed to starve China by moving everything to India, China would invade.

w/ what? shiney silver AK's that wont fire? India is a good ally to the United States, and i think the US has bases there, when china tries to invade india... US will strike china from the south, using taiwan as a base and taiwan will help US.

I doubt china would do sumthing stupid like that, they still have companies of their own u know

This is why the EU has been set up in 2000 Europe counted for a large portion of the worlds economy (over 50%) through imports/exports by the year 2020, EUROPE AS A WHOLE (the EU) will only account for 20% as africa and asia catch up.

I think we should just blow up China.  Then we won't have a problem.
Seriously, though, the US already has  huge trade deficit with China, which is probably going to get worse...

It´s not about plastic, at least if China is compared to USA. A big amount of high-tec comes from China, it´s not even engineered in america. If current development continues, not even rednecks want those cars that use technology from 1980s, or motorcycles that were designed in 1920s.

I think that such a commercial relocation is thoroughly infeasible, but that such a move would be a good one to make, even if it meant China launching military action. The point is to establish a large network of allies who are thoroughly supportive of an effort against them (i.e. not just financial or medical aid - allied combatants and the like fighting alongside the effort against China). If this actually happened, it would be quite a reasonable effort to dismantle the power within China. Besides that though, I don't really have a hold on the type of inflictions that China could extend upon us, seeing as such a large part of our debt is to them. Such an aspect could play largely into why this plan would never work, but I'm not really sure.

Yes. Now tell me what the hell the US is going to do about it. China has massive resources of absolutely everything they will need. Starting a war ain't a good idea - Superpower v. Superpower in all-out war usually results in EVERYONE losing.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.
