Here's a question for y'all, when did WW2 officially end?

Think carefully about this one.....

There wasn't a government of Germany for anyone to make formal peace with until 1990.

Although actual hostilities came to an end in September 1945, the Cold War got in the way of a formal legal settlement. The Paris Peace Treaties of 1947 wrapped up the wars between the allied powers and their non-German European enemies (Italy, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Finland); in 1952, the Allies (except the USSR) signed the Treaty of San Francisco with Japan, and, in 1955, Austria was restored to sovereignty. Germany, however, remained divided—first between the Western powers and the USSR, then (until 1990) into two sovereign Germanies. So the first celebration of German reunification, on 3rd October 1990, marks the official end to World War II.

EstebanRey: WWII will not be over until Korea and Japan fix the problem with Tokdo, Japan and Russia declare the cease-fire in the Kamchatka Peninsula binding, and Japan and China sort out the oil rights in the Japan Sea, also, when Palestine and Israel sort their shit out, the Slavic nations split for the 40th time, Afghanistan is at peace (indirectly related, ad infinitum.  Wars are never over until everyone forgets they happened.

Oh. I'm sorry. Were you implying something else?

Wrong!  The USSR and Japan never ceased hostilities, due to a dispute over a group of islands known as the Northern Territories/Southern Kurils.  World War II is officially still on.

And 10+ great war movies and some games are better than 6 million jews? HELL YEAH!
The jews was only a small part of the casualties the allied side lost 50 million military and civilans and the axis 12 million military and civilians.

But the war did not only result in kickass movies and games, it allso give rise to many new technologies that did not exist before.

I did a search and was surprised that this hadn't been asked - it's a classic debate topic and I am anxious to hear what you folks would do/say.

You hit a time warp - you find yourself on a roof top in about-to-become Nazi Germany, around 1934.  You also have your favorite sniper rifle, your Expert Sniper badge and a clear head shot at Hitler.

Do you take the shot?

What if it's 1924?  Does that change your mind?
I don't take the shot. Hitler allowed Germany to fall in WW2 with some of his stupid decisions. If it was earlier and I did kill Hitler, the Nazi party may never have come into power and mobilized Germany, allowing the Soviet Union an unopposed path through Europe.

World War 2 was the one major event which brought the United States out of the Great Depression for good.  Without it, we might not be half as powerful as we are now.

If Germany hadn't been there to stop the Soviets from taking over Europe, (and the rest of the world, for that matter) who would be?

Would you rather have the same horrible thing happen in modern times?  Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.  But, if you delete Hitler and WW2 from the pages of history, who's going to know not to repeat it again?  It never happened, from their point of view, (if you take the shot and kill Hitler, I mean).

So, no.  I'd take out a high-ranking general like Rommel or Von Runstedt.  Or would I?
nobody ever learns not to go to war from other wars... its why they still happen.
as far as other countries are concerned does it matter to them if it was usa or russia that ended up being the superpower, no one country can rule the world, its to much, they can just influence it.(heavily)
I was speculating....

And my point is not to be anti-war, you're never going to accomplish that with 100 percent of the population.  But pretty much everyone knows that Nazis are evil and the very name Hitler is probably the most infamous name of our time.
