The US was established by English speaking officials and as this is the best we have for a native language reference it's what we have to go with for now, sure there were plenty of immigrants in the 1700's but they had to communicate in English to get around. While technically you are correct in that congress has been debating as whether to call English "National" or "common" (pussies) for years speaking English IS a condition for immigration and more than half of the States have officialy adopted it. I wish we had never needed to bring the topic up, being that most of the previous immigrant groups had the desire to integrate with American society AND do so legally, this group currently referenced seems only to want to bleed the economic system for it's own self gain and remain as isolationist as possible.

This is technically untrue. The Germans in the 1700's, Italians and Chinese in the 1900's, these folks DIDN'T learn English. Their kids did. Without government langauge support, (for stuff like hospitals), these (mostly illegal, Ellis Island was only where the legal ones went) immigrants simply spoke with other people from their countries.

They only needed language support when they were dying, sick, or paying taxes. Just like now.

I'm sorry, but I think this is wrong, too. Only in movies do people say, "I want to be a part of this GREAT nation!" They didn't come to America to become Americans, they came because they wanted to eat.  They didn't give a fuck about the principles of America except the ones that said they didn't have to give their crops to the local Don/Lord/Prince every year in order not to be killed.

Limbaugh quotes Mexican immigration policy. Is it a wonder that a country with laws as fucked up as that has such a high emigration rate? Their laws towards citizens are just as fucked. Would you want to live there?

The people who are immigrating to the US now did NOT make those rules, their government did. And that is the problem with people. They think that a government is representative of the people. Bullshit.

A government is representative of the government. Rich people, powerful people, people who know who to blow and who to kill. This is the same everywhere, including the USofA.

They knew there were more opportunities for poor people in the US, and they knew the myth that anyone can go from pauper to President. That's why these people are in the US right now, because they know that if they run out of money, they won't die like they would at home. Some of them will take advantage of it, but that's the price you pay for being one of the kindest countries in the world.

Funny, I don't remember much German, Italian or Chinese in the constitution. That's the point I was trying to make. By this point some of the colonies were a couple hundred years old, I work on the east coast and don't rembember coming across any all German towns, whereas I commonly run across entire suburbs where you can go miles without seeing a sign posted in anything but Spanish. Sure some of the metropolitan centers have a chinatown or little Italy (which themselves are known as havens for illegals), it's in no way near as widespread as the illegal latino populations where you can find even the smallest towns like Calhoun, Ga. where you need a translator to function on the entire North side of town.

And this excuses the fact that they are doing this in an illegal manner how? You don't like you're country you should have the balls to try to change things first, I don't remember any stories of Fox executing political rivals. What if all these illegals went back and started a political revolution in their own country? Of course it's much easier to go to someone else's country that's already established as an industrial superpower, then start spouting secessionist sentiment like that republica del norte crap. As for my wanting to live there, that's an interesting concept, if I could scratch up enough investment capital I could be rolling in it with some investors by the time I retire. Mexico is rich in natural resources, they just need to change the laws regarding property rights, right now if you find oil in your back yard it becomes Fox's backyard. Almost Fascist in a sense. Oh, that's right, not being native Mexican I wouldn't be able to "rock the vote" as they say.

That's now. 200 years ago was a completely different situation. Illegal immigrants are nothing new in America. It's just recently that it's become a big issue, and it's NOT because there are more latinos per capita, it's because it's a good political tool for both sides of the spectrum. Though there may be more latinos per capita now than illegals per capita before, there's no way for us to find out. There were no records of illegals before unless they were obviously illegal (Chinese, etc.) I'd like to research this more thoroughly but we can't. That's why neither side should say that "there are more/less Latinos per capita", there's no evidence except anecdotal that it is true. While you can compare anecdotal evidence of one person at two times, you can't compare the evidence of two people at two times.

I agree wholeheartedly. This principle is part of what made America great. But the immigrants aren't thinking about it as a principle, they are thinking about it as a way of living better than they do now.

It doesn't. Nor does it condemn them more because their government is stupid. It just is and neither side should use it.

I don't think so. The very fact that almost all democracies are representative-republic (in fact if not in name) means that they don't represent the will of the people all the time. More importantly, politicians are no different than the KNights and Lords of the 17th Century. They don't join up to help people, they join up to lead people. If they help the people along the way, great. That gives more leverage with the people when they want to lead. But they don't do it out of goodness. Not ignorance, just opinion on the nature of humans.

If you don't mind me asking, does it matter? I was just wondering how it would change your opinion of what I wrote here. I'm not trying to be sneaky or conniving, I just think that the anonymity we both share about each other's background is what has helped this discussion remain civil. When we know locations, we tend (at least I do) to judge people based upon our preconceptions of the people who live there.

EDIT: I just realised you have your location in your sig. But I didn't notice it, so I think my point here still stands.

I do see your points. I still don't know the answer to the problem, nor am I entirely sure it's a problem though. I think that politicians are the same everywhere, and I don't trust them anywhere. The difference is that in some places they can get away with more. Now, if they think that illegal immigration is a problem, I have to doublecheck their numbers, because those fuckers lie a lot.

I don't want America to end up like Mexico. I want America to be the beacon the rest of the world uses to see the shore. I'm afraid of what will happen if these rules come in, and others that are similar, and am also afraid that there's nothing we can do about it if they do. History has cycles, and nations do too.

But the big thing is that the world has one thing now that it never had before, and that's the internet. I think if anything can help us stop being dickheads to each other, it's the fact that we have forums like these to yell at each other on.

That's why I'd like my nationality to remain unknown. Because when no one knows who I am or where I came from, they have to think about the argument instead of how I came to believe the argument.

It's not because I don't trust you specifically to judge my opinions based on merit alone, it's because most people don't. Including myself, sadly.
