I feel like Biden was always going to be 2-5 points behind trump. No matter his policies he was never going to get the unenthusiastic-about-voting younger people. A black woman brings its own struggles but hopefully she brings some excitement and the younger crowd gets out. Just bring in a boring AF white guy from a middle-america battleground state to win back the elderly never-trumpers that didn't like the race or gender of Kamala.
