Cats express themselves differently than dogs. People make wild extrapolation based on that. That said, some cats are the type who will be in your face most of the day, or rush out from wherever they were to greet you at the door before settling near wherever you sit down. I think people who are mostly dog people can't look past the lack of a full body wag, or the kind of unnecessary panicked excitement that some dog-owners inadvertently encourage. "Cats are evil," ok.

"Dogs would die for us," is also a bit of a meme. People tend to project nobility on the animal. Dogs are dogs. They could also maim or kill you, or your children, or jump the fence to savage some poor neighbor kid riding his bike down the street. Cats won't generally charge the fence in a mad froth like rabid animals. I've never had to carry cat treats in my car to tame down other people's felines just so I could park in my driveway without fear of injury. (speaking of antisocial types, keeping and encouraging an animal to frighten and 'deter' neighbors in their own property, or complete strangers walking down the street on errands; see also: nuisance barking for hours all day, every day). Dog people can be rather blind when it comes to their pooch. "Aww, pibble, squee, so dangerous yes you are!"

Adding to the previous, dogs have in fact eaten their dead owners. One woman had her face eaten by her red setter after she passed out drunk. Dogs will attack and eat you alive. Cats, dogs, cats and dogs, pet rodents, your own gut flora, cellular autolysis. Your dead body is on the menu. Grim!

When it comes down to it, animals are animals and people misunderstand them by projecting human behaviors and standards.

I had a nice first date with a petite blonde in Astoria Queens last week. She has a cat though.

While eating Thai dinner she mentions she has Lyme disease. I was like "oh I guess being an archaeologist can be dangerous." She says she thinks she got it from her cat. "I found ticks on it before." The cat is a indoor cat in Queens but in Long Island her family lets it be an outdoor cat.

I still would have went back to her place to meet her diseased cat if she invited me.

Creepy but maybe understandable. Just be up front about why it makes you feel uncomfortable, I guess. Maybe look for women into polyamory.

I think three women at work are after me, and a woman from across the road - who actually seems nice if crazy.

I think I'm just going to stay indoors from now on.
