I was sleeping in my girlfriend's living room during Spring Break. Her neighbor's back porch light kept coming on in the middle of the night. The first time the light lit up the room I thought Aliens were there for me.

Stuck in Jury Dury today. At least my work gives me a paid PTO day for it without deducting from my regular allotment. Jury Duty in this county sucks though, they have you on-call the whole week and you don’t know when you have to come in until the day before. You also may even be called back in later that week if you weren’t already assigned to a docket when you came in earlier in the week. In PG County, you just got your day, showed up and then you were good for 3 years after that.

I hate that jury duty notifications come in a letter laced with a preponderance of your standard, threatening government language. If for whatever reason you don't get to letter in time, all sorts of Bad Things could happen in your life. It's the 21st century. Send a text if you want people's immediate attention.

Being sequestered in a hotel somewhere for a high profile case sounds like a nightmare.

Just thinking about that the other day. The meme has grown more obnoxious (sites today are unusable), and the marketing has crept into April. By 2060, it will be second Christmas. I say this as there aren't many Star Wars games I haven't already picked up at like -80% on Steam over various May 4 sales, so maybe hypocritical of me to complain.

I don't have Disney+, so am only peripherally aware of all the show spam going on right now. It's a lot of comic book stuff for people to keep up with, but at least it gives people jobs. It's funny that one of the excuses for the old book lore being tossed in the dumpster is that Disney thought it was too convoluted, so instead they create their own convoluted lore. During yesteryear, there was no way Star Wars would be so tacky as to absorb Kyle Katarn from dark forces. Now the guy from Fallen Order is in a show? lmao. It's actually a relief though that they're so uninterested in adapting the Dark Forces series.

To say nothing of the harry potter mess that is the movies.

Picked some steak up at a fancy corner market to drop off by my parents. Bagging stuff was all behind-counter. Before I could say anything, the clerk dropped the nicely wrapped steak in the first bag and immediately tossed in like 20 pounds of other stuff on top of it. Transferred to other bag when I got back to the car. Small leakage and some scrubbing of some of the other items over the kitchen sink. I'll recommend that the cucumber be stir fried or something.

This is why I bag my own groceries.

I can get Hefty 13 gallon bags at $0.14/bag. 42 gallon contractor bags, 3 mils, at 1.20/bag. A plastic grocery bag (I suppose ~2 gallons) in Washington now costs a shopper $0.08.

It's funny to me that a larger, plastickier garbage bag is more cost effective than the multipurpose grocery bags I was using as wastebin liners all this time. It's also really funny to me that it's called a "bag ban," but you can still bypass it with money. How violently American is that?

The biggest group of people I've heard actually grumbling about the bag cost are boomers still "fresh" from a bygone era where a dime could actually afford you things, but I think they're largely resigned or over it by now. Biggest group this hurt are probably the scrounging coupon clippers of the pandemic, during which this went into effect, as stores passed the cost to consumers. But that there are people that poor is another can of worms.

I have reusables, it's just a matter of remembering to bring a bunch in case a spontaneous grocery trip happens. Those plastic file crates would work nicely, but a little more awkward to carry in anything smaller than a platform truck.

A few months ago I was slicing onions and I put my knife into my thumb. Nothing crazy, but after an hour of holding a paper towel on it the bleeding hadn't stopped so I figured I should stop watching Picard and go to the ER. I told them it wasn't an 'emergency' so much as a 'very soon'. I sat in the waiting room for a few hours until they had time to give me TWO STITCHES. Just two.

3 months later I'm paying my second bill. This one is only $35 but my first was $700. 735 US dollars for two stitches and I have insurance.

Is this even a first-world problem when in the US we run on 3rd world healthcare policies?
