crazy anecdote: https://imgur.com/gallery/B41KjTv

Man brings gun to hospital, pops off a shot in the pediatric ward, leaves. Security with its thumbs where the sun don't shine for like 15 minutes. Security footage, but "well we can't prove anything?"

Just…. tell me you live in America without telling me you live in America.

A 19 year old Brony walked into an Indianapolis FedEx place in 2021 and smoked 8 people and then himself. The guy had a lifetime of red flags including involuntary hospitalization and an interview with the FBI because his mom and others were worried once he both a rifle and mentioned suicide. Indiana has red flag laws but lack of follow up allowed him to get a new gun months later.
In March 2020, Hole's mother contacted the local authorities and warned them about her son's intent to die by suicide by cop and his purchase of a shotgun the day before, prompting an investigation to be opened. Police responded to the home and took him to a hospital. While being placed in handcuffs, an anxious Hole instructed the officers to turn off his computer, since he did not want anyone to see what was on it. An officer went upstairs to seize the shotgun and observed what he identified as white supremacist websites on Hole's computer in the process.[12][24][25] Hole was placed in an "immediate detention mental health temporary hold" by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, but he was released after less than two hours.[2][26] In April 2020, the FBI questioned Hole about the websites. The investigation was later closed due to insufficient evidence of any criminal violation or a racially motivated extremist ideology held by Hole, though the shotgun was not returned to him.[27][28]

According to the police, Hole used two AR-15 style rifles in the shooting, and both of them were legally purchased from a licensed gun store in July and September 2020.[25][29] Under Indiana's red flag law, Hole could have been prevented from making firearm purchases for at least six months after his temporary mental health detainment if a hearing had been scheduled with a judge fourteen days after the seizure of his shotgun. However, Marion County prosecutors decided to not schedule such a hearing, believing authorities had already achieved the law's objective since Hole's family did not want the seized shotgun back.
A lot of states passed red flag laws but local governments, for whatever reason, aren't making the most of it. Time and again we hear about mass shooters who were flagged or should have been flagged still able to legally buy guns. A big issue regarding the red flag laws is hostility to the idea of gun control among large segments of the population. There's also a nexus where right wing politics and mass shootings meet and I think police who are oftentimes right wing tend to look past red flag behavior in potential mass shooters.

I remember this, and the weird amount of focus, mention, and gleeful punching down on his particular topic of nerdity in a way I think Batman mostly skirted past after the theater shooting (Joker would either think that was hilarious or just be angry that someone was stealing his schtick). I'm not sure, but the experience and thrill of murder is probably nowhere in the sage teachings of approved Hasbro content about unicorn hairdressers or looked upon very kindly by the other nerds. I could understand the connection more I guess if it was Magic the Gathering or Dragon Ball Z or Star Wars (Han shot first)? Or perhaps more if something more pertinent, like say, being in the gun fandom.

"Jonny Fatfinger had a "come and take it" gun channel where he would frequently bemoan societal ills and the dehumanizing effect of face masks with increasingly alarming vigor until Youtube shut down the channel."

and to think that a decade or so ago young men (of, ahem, a different complexion) were being sent to gitmo indefinitely based on the vaguest of red flags.

It is rather the stereotype, isn't it. That these perpetrators are closeted 'queers' themselves. There's probably a sliver of truth to that gossip. We all know about those 'disgraced' anti-gay politicians and pundits caught doing totally gay things. Not just them. Men who were once caught by their wives in women's makeup, disapprove of 'groomer story hour.' Who eat up anti-library propaganda and are infuriated about what have been labeled 'child porn novels,' with a number of old sci-fis in their home library with questionable content.

IMO, highlighting the stereotype reinforces a maybe dangerous impression that gays are their own worst enemies. I think most of the time this sort of thing is just going to be plain old radicalized homophobia and violent 'gay panic.' Either way, anti-LGBT rhetoric fans the flames. I think about this sometimes when I see photoshopped images of Putin and Erdoğan in clownish drag makeup, as figures to then especially be mocked. Does it do more harm than good?

Less than a week ago I was talking about how Red Flag laws failed. It happened again. Amazing how that keeps happening.

dilbert: lesbians are a threat to my civilisation.  i nearly filled out an application form for the reservists once. i am super tough, don’t fuck with traditional society because we WILL put our boot into your ass, woke libs.

actual veteran who stomped an active shooter: these guys seem like they’re having fun, have at it!

this forum could have saved itself 11,000 posts if dilbert the closeted catlady just admitted that he likes cock and is still hurt over the effete art school fop who snubbed him in ‘87.

I agree with all that but I meant I think this guy is actually legit gay and not a closet. Even with the low quality image u can tell he kinda has a gay looking face (it's hard to explain) plus the outfit and glasses and the way he's holding/throwing the brick looks effeminate.

It probably is hard to explain. I don't have the gaydar framework to make out a gay person from a blurry photo of their face. I'll need vocal inflections and body language to detect the most obvious ones.

Wasn't this guy also locked in a police car for an hour after, kept in the dark and forgotten about while his family bled?

before the barrel's even cooled at the night club, another walmart shooting: https://twitter.com/michellewolftv/stat … 4870441985

Police: "no more than 10 people have died," well, if only that amount …

Yes, the way to maintain freedom of speech is to ban people from speaking freely.

freedom of speech was never freedom to issue death threats. this isn’t complicated.

what it always comes down with you ‘free speech advocates’ is that you want to be able to call pe people the n-word and disparage indians without worry of being fired.

Even if freedom of speech covered death threats, being banned from Twitter isn't preventing you from commenting literally anywhere else. If you walked into a supermarket and screeched a bunch of threats and racist foul language, you'd be asked to leave.

At least until Musk bought it out I guess.

erm both are codified crimes. what’s the difference? there are de jure limitations on forms of speech. ‘free speech’ covers your right to individual expression. it doesn’t cover you if you decide to make someone fear for their life ffs.

There has never been absolute free speech in the U.S. In the time of the founding fathers, people were killed in duels for saying things much less harsh than what geta traded on the internet today. Was it John Adams who passed the original Alien and Sedition Acts too?

I like Mike Tyson's quote on internet civility. “Social media made you all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.” I think of that when people say "you don't have a right to not be offended." Reminds me of people saying "life isn't fair." Both are said by people who obviously would howl if they were disrespected or would get upset about the 'unfairness of life' when the unfairness turns against them.

lmao, 'civility,' preaches the woman-beating rapist who said his mother's death was the best thing that happened to him. "Violence begets civility." weeeeeez
