I Really.....Really wish
Just bought a new 2022 Ford Explorer XLT on Wednesday. The Crown Vic's engine completely died from a seized valve less than a week after I got onto day shift back in September, so I sold it, saved up some money for a few months and my parents also helped me with the down payment. A lot of people might think it was a dumb purchase because it's brand new and also domestic, but buying at least one new car has always been on my bucket list and with used car prices being what they are, it seems like there's never been a better time to buy new. It also seemed like the most spiritual successor to the Crown Vic as well since they don't make them anymore. Plus I bought a package from the dealership where the engine is supposedly fully warrantied for as long as I own it, so at least there's that.
It's easily the fastest thing I've ever driven, it's nearly fucking terrifying how quickly this thing can pick up speed when I want it to. It weighs probably 600 lbs more than my 4,100 lb Crown Vic did and the engine is literally half the size, but with these modern tiny aggressively tuned factory-turbocharged engines, it doesn't even matter, it just hauls ass and handles like a much lighter vehicle.

How much over MSRP did you pay? I am planning to drive my car until the wheels fall off. I want to save money for a condo.
My stepdad fortunately knows a guy who's good friends with a commercial dealer about an hour away, and he absolutely hooked me up. He basically said "Just order it from Ford's website exactly how you want it and then when it gets here, you can come in and pay MSRP, all I ask is that you don't pester me at all about when it's gonna get here". My local dealership was charging 6,000 over MSRP on every new Explorer they had, which put them all out of my price range. They had a 2017 Explorer XLT with like 75,000 miles on it that was still going for $29.5K after taxes & fees.
If the deal had fallen through for any reason, I probably would've gone with a Subaru Legacy. The MSRP is over $10,000 cheaper so there's more cushion for dealership pricing bullshit, plus they're surprisingly large and good-looking for a modern sedan, and AWD is standard. The Crown Vic had spun off the road in winter conditions at least once every other year that I owned it, I'm completely done driving things that aren't either AWD or 4WD.

Good stuff. Got pictures?
From my front porch:
Best picture:
I really like the taillights on this generation of Explorer, also I didn't realize I had a spoiler until I took this pic:
I might have to do a proper photoshoot of some sort while it's still so shiny, it really is a gorgeous truck and these are only the first daytime pics I've taken of it.

Hopefully your new plate number won't match your temporary. Posting that stuff always makes me nervous about doxxing.
i'm not a security expert but i don't think you can even do anything with a license plate number. think you'd need access to like secure law enforcement or dmv databases and shit. if it was easy you'd probably hear about a lot of stalking cases etc where it started with some person getting a license plateunnamednewbie13 wrote:

i just ordered pizza and told them to leave the bill under the windscreen wiper.
It's not the worst information you can have online but it isn't completely harmless. One more detail on your internet footprint usable by stalkers, thieves, and cybercriminals. It's so effortless to blur and so commonly done, that it's 'why not' rather than 'why' imo.lil_droo wrote:

This is just a temporary plate though, I expect the actual will be a different number.
Nice and boring after the car it replaced:
Which was loud and fast and attracted too much (bad) attention.
Looks like a B9 S3 was replaced by an A5 Coupe, a 2019? Can't tell.
You're growing up. Don't slam that pedal, it won't do as much.

how about just don't drive like a dummy
I had the thought recently about fuel-efficiency standards the other day and how, well-intentioned, they would likely be nowhere near as effective as possible because so many Americans drive like maniacs. Flooring the pedal from red light to red light in cities and switching between 65 and 90 mph on the highway is a helluva thing to counteract. Luckily for me, people are rightfully scared to race my turbo 1.8L...
how about taking a bus. you just drowned 300 pakistanis for your small-cock prosthesis.
i swear 80% of the males here would hire a soft top to drive around miami and pick up comfort women with furred top lips.
sad!

EV sales have skyrocketed in china in the last 2 years. 35-40% of all new car sales in china are electric.DesertFox- wrote:

meanwhile you guys are rolling coal and going to giant bike meets. motorcycles are illegal in most modern chinese cities. like red neck trucks, they’re associated with criminality and low self-respect.
if the china man with a one-inch wang can move past this boyish ego trip, why are american beef cakes so fatally addicted? buy a bicycle, you brooks brothers eunuch.
Don't have anything against the more or less sane, cross-country bikers. But no time for those who cause problems, rev their engines at 2 am in neighborhoods, and pull crazy hijinks on public roadways making things dangerous for everyone else.
Would rather live next to a biker than a coal roller. I don't need that stuff on my cherry tomatoes.

i know about 3 people who have died on motorcycles. one in a very unpleasant and drawn-out way. i'm sure they're fun but so is speedballing coke and heroin. avoid.
You can't legislate for human stupidity, every fuel efficiency gain has been eaten up by bigger and heavier and more powerful vehicles and people's stupid driving habits. Its really disappointing being a technologist.DesertFox- wrote:

Spare a thought for the people effectively lugging around two extra engines and a gearbox and axle three times stronger than they really need, all for that two seconds a day they put their foot down.Luckily for me, people are rightfully scared to race my turbo[sub] 1.8L...
Fuck Israel
I have a friend who crashed motorcycle after motorcycle, his high point was taking a loan to buy a new one, not taking insurance - with his record it was prohibitive - and crashing it within about three days.uziq wrote:

He's in a wheelchair now.

i had a cousin in south africa who went into an articulated lorry that was u-turning illegally on a big 'empty' highway.
he was severely brain damaged and had life-changing injuries. he jumped off a tall building in jo'burg about 8 years later.
i can avoid the thrill of motorcycles. comparisons of risk between the different forms of transport are almost absurdly hilarious in how far ahead motorbikes are. like it's not even close.

Are you an actual fucking moron? I deride various commonplace fuel-wasting practices and punctuate it by sarcastically referencing the quite small displacement for the US of my cars engine (thereby insinuating I'm not gonna be drag-racing anybody) and you go off on some weird screed about rolling coal at motorcycles?uziq wrote:

i was being facetious. we all know that you yanks are the same. yes, i am sure you roll coal on your way to eat corn dogs at the state fair.
did talk of 'the china man' not alert you to the fact that i was perhaps not construing the most sincere argument?
