do you understand natural selection? rofl.

it’s like talking to a schoolchild.

why are you ignoring the fact that antiviral pills work against all variants? why are you ignoring the fact that, time again, it has been shown that highly exposed populations are more robust to new strains?

this pandemic isn’t going to reset. there isn’t going to be a mutation v2.0 that puts up back in year 1 death territories.

such as? not a single ‘zero covid’ nation is free of omicron. it will soon account for the majority of all new cases in south korea. taiwan have an escalating outbreak. new zealand has omicron. china has omicron.

omicron’s rate of spread is unprecedented. it goes from one small leak or cluster to the most dominant strain in under a month.

where are these countries who, using dilbert’s ‘borders for dummies’ guidebook, are blessedly free of omicron and charlie sheen #winning?

Not much use if they aren't available eh?

Two doses of vaccine were expected to be plenty.

Most countries are well behind, Britain is at 54% 3rd booster, Aus 30%, your precious South Korea at 38% - not really miles ahead

jesus christ you are just so thick.

2 vaccine doses were plenty … for 6 months. until another variant appeared, which diminished then very slightly. then, 6 months later, another variant again. at this point those ‘2 doses’ were based on formulae that were 2 years old. what don’t you get? “people were saying based on hundreds of data sets and results that these vaccines were highly effective! their 2 year old studies lied to us!!!” "i took 2 flu jabs in 2006 and 2007. shouldn't that be plenty? big pharma lies!"

of course those differences in boosters are not trivial. it depends (a) HOW recently people were vaxxed/boostered and (b) WHICH groups of (c) WHAT demographic profile. the simple fact is that australia is lagging at the back of the pack of 70+ western nations on their booster programme.

if a country is 40% boostered and has a young population, that’s significantly different from one which is 25% boostered with an ageing population.

if a country boostered pretty well their entire elderly population in short order, in about a month this winter, as korea did, then that ‘only 38% boostered’ stat paints a relatively robust picture against the winter wave. they precisely targeted the most vulnerable/most shielded and delivered the boosters in a well-timed manner to tackle the brunt of a new wave. this is what 'living with covid' looks like: deploying resources to those who are at risk and letting the rest of society RESUME normality.

55% of the U.K. have been boostered. so let’s say the majority of everyone who is over 50. omicron is NO risk to young people.

get it, thicko?

Classic clothing brand's controversial vaccine rule triggers boycott

The latest big name to find itself in an uncomfortable spotlight: Carhartt, which is facing a boycott from some customers who are angry that the clothing company is still enforcing a vaccine requirement for its employees.

most people who buy and work in carhartt thesedays are hipster millennials and gen-z'ers. big crossover with skating/streetwear brands.

it's about as blue-collar as levis. or regenerated hipster neighbourhoods of detroit. lol.

That's not 100% accurate. It's still considered "the nice clothes" by some actual blue collar people, if with a reputation for being a little expensive. They have a presence in both practical/style workwear stores and the clothing department of a Fred Meyer.

The blue collar people upset about hearing about Carhartt's vaccination policy probably have at least one article of Carhartt clothing, and share a large spot on the Venn diagram with people who were upset about Mr. Potatohead's rebranding. I see the jackets and hats all the time whenever I'm out shopping for bird feed in the sticks, worn as often by travelling suburban aunts who wear boots over leggings as by men with lift kits and Trump stickers. An ubiquitous brand.

One man's hipster attire is another's work outfit. Funny how that works out.

Dickies has some heavy duty tees that can survive a bit of roughing up, without looking like work shirts or having quite the giant logo brand recognition as Carhartt I think. I've got a few in my closet.

this was how it has gone with every instantiation of 'hipster' or 'trendy youth' wear for decades.

jeans used to be workwear. denim connoted 'blue collar', double-denim, doubly so. did you see the 1990s? every MTV popstar was wearing double-denim. nobody would associate jeans now, really, with tough blue-collar lifestyles.

the classic brooklyn hipster in 2008 wore trucker caps, drank pabst blue ribbon shitty beer, etc.

I can't fault Uzique for looking at Carhartt and thinking about hipsters since I look at Dickies and think of LA gang members.

there's a big carhartt store in bristol and they do a lot with the local music/fashion/skating scene. carhartt 'collaborate' a lot with edgy youth brands and urban magazines like Crack (also based in bristol). so the association is pretty ubiquitous.

re: last image, I can already hear the Oblivion music wtf.

Carhartt certainly does have some stuff that's not really meant to be workwear. Fingers in multiple pies, as it were.

How often are you willing to get a booster? 6 months seems reasonable. I get a flu shot once a year already.

But did nothing to prevent transmission.

I've read two books and read articles by multiple health professionals which say vaccines help but ending transmission is the only way out of this.

Omicron is clearly not the end. the variant after Omicron is likely going to tell us which way this is going to go, its probably fermenting in an African AIDS victim right now.
