Knives are hilariously bad tools of mass murder. I see every knife attack as vindication of gun control.

Also an underestimated weapon. I've seen raw news vids of armed police getting taken out lightning fast by knives.

Prosecutors had accused him of plotting a "lone wolf" terror attack using knives, but the judge ruled that planning a terror attack was not in itself an offence under existing laws
That loophole should have been closed already, but they focused on banning specific guns instead of making planning an attack an offence and here we are.

And there you have 99% of gun ownership in the US. Dumbass people who think the mexicans are going to rape them or they're sure Red Dawn is a documentary so they load up on weapons and ammo. They're also sure playing COD gives them the training to be John Wick and they'll perform just fine under pressure.

not a good reaction by her but she was robbed at gunpoint. then she probably hit everything but anywhere near her targets.

Why is this in public freakout? Autistic screeching about Pickle Rick at a McDonald's seems like a totally different realm than shooting your wife's ex.

e: heseemsnice.gif in reference to the man who got shot. standing out in the yard yelling. stepfather walks out with a gun, yells at him to leave. reasonable reaction: go chest the guy like you're a bunch of high school jocks.

where the fuck are all the grownups in this?

Yes that's rather the point.

Can't always rely on cooler heads to prevail, I guess. Could there be such a thing as a good guy with a gun in this scenario?

Was that self defense? Even if he introduced the gun to the bad situation, it is still self defense.

I am not a lawyer, but self defense seems like a bit of a tough sell here. The other guy was doing jock stuff in stepfather's personal bubble, but I don't think any punches were thrown or weapons drawn apart from that brandished rifle? No struggle, stepfather leisurely stepped back a couple paces and dropped the guy like a sack of potatoes.

Maybe an argument will be made for self defense involving the ex's dirty toenails.

e: I wonder who else was in front of that gun when it went off? Imagine executing your rival only to murder a stepchild?

In NJ, we have 'duty to retreat' laws. So even if you are in your house, your first move needs to be to get out/hide/call the police. So the guy going into the house to grab the rifle would make the killing illegal in NJ. In states with "stand your ground" (closet case states), the guy getting the rifle did nothing wrong in escalating the situation. Hence why he probably is going to get off on this killing.

What was he really standing his ground against though? A belligerent but non-violent ex. He was getting chesty about stuff but he didn't make any moves to grab the rifle or anything, brought by the shooter perilously within grappling range? I don't think the stepfather was in a fight-or-flight mode, or particularly worried or unsure for his life when he put the guy down. The shots even looked bored.

Might be hard even in some of the stand your ground states, but then again some of those castle cases are more of a sally forth ordeal than shooting down from the ramparts.

After the K.R. case I don't think there are many prosecutors looking to get involved in complex stand your ground cases. I would bet that no charges come of this at all.

Forget it. It's Texas.

trump has already paid a visit to rittenhouse and released a photo-op for the occasion.

he claims the US is under threat from 'far-left fascism'.

because shooting 3 people and walking away with zero penalties whatsoever really indicates an oppressive regime.

these people literally live on a different planet. and even when they're winning substantially, and taking advantage of every privilege, they still complain as if they're in the process of being dispossssed and treated unfairly (reminds me of dilbert...).

Why shouldn't people criticize the war on drugs, though? Has it been working as advertised, or is it just another excuse to fill prisons in the name of "helping society."

If people don't want to be in prison they can maybe try not taking drugs.

If they're that dumb maybe prison is the best place for them.

erm ... what?

the war on drugs hasn't worked, if you think ruining someone's life and making them a lifetime felon for smoking weed is a good idea, then you're cracked.

i don't care much about the legality of drugs, other than to point out the obvious absurdity and total disconnection from rational, sound, medical-scientific reasoning. you can have your life ruined over a relatively harmless herb, meanwhile you're allowed to cane yourself to your heart's content on a carcinogenic, neurotoxic, addictive and societally corrosive substance. doesn't make any sense, but there we are.

pretty much everyone i know takes drugs without paying the legality or specific legal classification any heed. it's basically an open and tolerated thing in places like bristol and london. the police don't have the time or resources to chase down every bien pensant middle-class drug user who indulges on saturday p.m. the law may as well not exist for these people (and, yes, that is a form of privilege that's particular to a certain race and class).

lmao. no, not by any metric has the war on drugs worked.

if anything, drug users are winning. marijuana is inevitably becoming legal across most of the united states.

clearly making it a controlled substance for decades wiped out the demand for it, and didn't at all waste hundreds of thousands of lives with criminal proceedings.

Underground trade flourishes. Same happened with booze here.

If Cats and alcohol were banned in Oz, you'd find a way around both.

Once again, we're at the point where we get to talk about alcohol in terms of it being a dangerous drug that you make excuses for as if it were apart from banned substances. Alcohol usage leads to health issues, impairment, reduced inhibitions, violence, and the whole array of other social issues to go with all that. Alcoholism: an epidemic issue in the US and other countries with a self-perpetuating culture that you are entrenched in.
