What are your guys thoughts about it? It is good old BF2 even with stats.

There are a handful of always active servers. I am thinking of getting a 24/7 Karkand vehicles server going. That or a 24/7 Warlord server vehicles one. Would you guys be interested?

i'd be down to play. The last time i played BF2 was about 2 years ago and it did not age well. Movement was really clunky

Movement is slow. The ability to slide and peek around corners is something that BF2 would have been improved by that modern games have.

Still the unlock system or lack thereof is perfect. No fucking unlockable scopes, stocks, grips, perks, abilities etc. Just our factions guns and our skills with them.

Noob gun. In BF4 it has 10 scopes, 3 grips, 4 stocks, and 2 suppressors types. All needing to be unlocked.

Karkand vehicles was very popular back in the day but there isn't a dedicated server for it now even though there are a handful of servers that are always up. I think I would only need to get it to 64 once and it will stay filled up for the rest of time on its own.

Lots of points
Areas with diverse distances so every weapon can be useful
Skill needed: good drivers can get tons of points/kills, bad drivers can get demolished in seconds
Skill not needed: nade spam

tldnr: Fun for all skill levels, fast paced, lots of points

Interestingly it is also the default map when you install a server. That may have helped early on.

I was always a big fan of Jalalabad (it can get SO one-sided though) and Mashtuur. Remember the old days on Mashtuur with the full blackhawks hovering and taking flags? MBF2GA

I like Jalalabad. Getting that first flag when everyone else was sniping from inside he US base could be a little vexing.

I have found some great 3rd party single player maps which I play in moments of sadness, since the vanilla SP maps really suck, some of them are actually OK and would make great team maps.

Can you set the ping limit sufficiently high that people from abroad could play?

Is still 64 slots so there will always have full bot teams to play against. You can always jump in and out of big battles and will be place on the same team as all the other humans.

Just had my 1st game in 8 years or so. Somehow managed to finish 3rd on Wake Island before the game switched me to the losing team (I forgot how silly that was) and I was left with a Type 88 rifle that I am shit with.

I can't remember how you unlock the L96... I have SF installed.

Anyone?

If I remember correctly (how do I remember this shit after more than 10 years ?!) you have to launch it / play on an SF map once and you'll be granted 1 extra unlock per promotion.

There was a cursed edition of BF2 on Steam. Shameful if it was still around but not fixed. Every now and then something comes up about people still running servers, I dunno if that's still a thing.

Currently feel like the game is rather a closed chapter and I'd rather not crack it back open unless a mod adds some improvements (re: kj, clunky). Same way with some games I also spent decent time on (Savage, Guild Wars, TF2, Space Marine, CoH).

where did this game go? isn't like 15 years old at this point? there have been about 6 battlefield sequels since. the answer to where it went is pretty simple.

very few games have that sort of longevity. bf2 is from the same era as call of duty 2 and world of warcraft classic. it would take a widespread and official revival by the developers (as in WoW) to actually bring it back.

They could turn it into a tabletop game just to compete with and annoy Games Workshop. It would be funny seeing eyes roll at all the grenade calculations for the Karkand bottlenecks.

iirc a lot of people couldn't even get it to start. really bad qc has been an issue with a number of rereleases on the platform. i'm all for letting people buy whatever game they want, but it would be nice to have something akin to the "nintendo seal of quality."
