As a Jew, I think support for Israel should be paramount to U.S. foreign policy. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. Jewish people need a homeland to call our own after the struggles we have faced elsewhere.

Two BBC reports, from reporters on the ground, plant the blame firmly on Israel.

Palestinians were quietly going to the mosque at the end of Ramadan and the police opened up on them with water cannon, tear gas and stun grenades for no reason.

Its the same every time, the Israelis provoke, provoke, provoke, the Palestinians respond and the Israelis scream about evil terrorists and use the opportunity to kill some more and steal more land.

From what I have read this stems from the eviction of an Arab family from Jerusalem by Jewish settlers. So the law in Israel is that Jewish families can claim property lost in the previous wars but Arabs cannot? The Jewish mayor of Jerusalem defended the law by saying "Israel is a Jewish state. The laws should favor Jews". Yikes. That sort of overt racism would have been impolite in the even the 60's south.

Jews can basically claim whatever they like, they see a house or patch of land they like, go to court and point out to the judge that they're jewish and the palestinians aren't and the judge gives them title.

The other mechanism is they break into a palestinian home, claim they own it and its up to the palestinian to go to court and prove otherwise.
So many have to fortify their homes and never leave them unoccupied.

Either would make a terrorist of the most peaceful person.

I'm sure uziq would be peeved to go back to the uk and discover his flat had been transferred to a family of druids, because they were there first obviously.

Actually I'm pretty sure I have some druid blood in my maternal line.

Off-topic "everyone clapped" for a second, the Armenian Genocide suddenly became a thing in my political discussions with conservatives, but only in terms of Biden making a mistake in angering our strategic ally, Turkey. Learning that the Armenians are Christian left a couple mouths opening and closing like a fish. Discussing the plight of Christians in non-western countries is usually fertile ground for Islamophobic echo-chambering.

Mentioned all this before, but conversations with them have been thankfully free of Turkey stuff for awhile. To think some self-style as widely read and educated in terms of history. I guess it takes more than a shelf full of American Civil War (muh state's rights!), WW2 (causes leading up to are sometimes unknowingly cited from Nazi propaganda), Vietnam, for perspective in other topics. It would probably help if they gave even those books more than a cursory skim.

Unrelated to the above (but one of these guys) and more for the religion thread, but I just don't get non-Catholics with a virtual fetish for Catholic iconography, Boondock Saints, radio programs, and email newsletters. Like what happened to their own identity?
