As far as the real world goes, I wish we could stay virtual learning forever. I would move to south jersey, buy a small ranch style house, and commute to my once a month or whatever meeting at school. One can dream.

Why do you want people like jay to be stuck with their kids without having the relief of government babysitting?

i’ve had a few pairs of their 2xxx and 3xxx over the years. very solid earbuds for sure. a few niggles with them though. you can tell shure’s in ears are engineered for monitoring vocal mixes, as on stage, primarily. the n  mids are always phenomenal but the lows and trebles feel a bit thin and rolled off.

turns out you have to go to the 8xxx benchmark pair before they take the high all the way up to 20k hz. that’s particularly annoying for me as i listen to music on extremely well tuned monitor speakers almost all day. it would be the equivalent of listening to all my songs muffled when on the move. unfortunately that sort of thing can become really noticeable when you’re A/B’ing it.

Because I don't want to be stuck with their kids providing government babysitting.

Stupid expensive Xbox controller.
https://i.imgur.com/1wrWnEq.png
I needed a controller and I decided that if I am going to make a one time purchase of one I might as well get the fanciest one possible. Why a Xbox controller? Even though I believe that PlayStation 1 to 3 controller is the best of all time,

I expect the Microsoft car payment edition has good software support since we al know Windows 10 keeps reinstalling xbox software for a reason. The overpriced motherboard Uzique got angry about has built in bluetooth so this should work pretty well assuming Windows 10 doesn't fuck me.

i noticed those controllers were ridiculously expensive too when i purchased RDR2. i ended up just skipping it. the default xbox controller is like $100 and seems like a fairly basic piece of junk. and, of course, there's fucking elite-tier gam3r dude controllers that cost up to like $300. W T F.

almost every modern motherboard will have built-in Bluetooth btw. you don't have to spend a fortune for that. my 10-year-old computer had bluetooth.

Same. This is the $17 knock-off I opted for after I stopped borrowing a legit one from my brother. It feels a bit cheaper and less responsive than the Microsoft version and is a bit click-clackier, but no fucking way was I spending at a minimum the retail price of the game for a controller for it.

I wish some of those novelty consoles you see that are packed with 70 games or whatever had bluetooth rather than dodgy IR or 2 foot cords.

i actually do not find bluetooth very useful in almost any application. airdrop on mac is pretty cool but that's literally the best implementation of bluetooth i have seen. i would just prefer a USB cord in almost every use-case. i am not sitting 15 feet away from my computer/monitor when playing games.

The only reason I needed Bluetooth on my PC was for VR controllers. I forgot I had it until I read this.

I did enjoy bluetooth for gaming though. No trip hazards to police. Was heavenly for an ent. center. Just give me a cord over IR. Keeping those things pointed in the narrow cone of reception like playing a minigame in your own subconscious.

One of the perks to the PS3 was the bluetooth remote that could pick up signals three rooms away. New BR player, I'm back to finding the right angle to point its remote at.

My new xbox controller is on the bottom. The steam controller is on the top. I left the steam controller dusty to annoy newbie but also demonstrate just how much I have ever used the thing.

A bunch of consoles I have not stowed in a closed cabinet have collected quite a bit of dust over time (e: yes, I have an air cleaner). The newest of these is the Wii U touchpad controller, which I haven't used much of since I bought a Switch.

It's high time I brushed the cobwebs off my PS2 on general principle. The DVD cases on the floor-ish level of the bookshelves aren't faring too well either, probably not helped by them being along regular foot traffic. But better those than books.

I really liked the Steam controller, but still use my 360 mostly. Some part of me misses the awkward, non-ergonomic days of the NES and Intellivision.

What are those big circles for? I guess the one on the left might be a D-pad, but is there even anything on the right one?

The left one is in fact a D-pad. The one on the right acts like a laptop mouse surface. It barely works.

I dunno, the haptic feedback and that touchpad worked extremely well for me. Maybe you have a bum controller or it's not configured properly. One of the major selling points is that you could use it to play an RTS with some level of precision while being laid back with a controller.

I don't know how much longer I'd bother though, soon enough the PS5 controller will probably have full functionality on Steam.

I like, and exclusively use, my Steam Controller.

Both pads are touch sensitive but the important difference is it's endlessly customizable. Turn either pad into any sort of configuration you like: touch circular-menu, touch regional-menu, stick-like movement, camera control, etc. Add in the double-layer effect of having a completely different set of options (if another button was held or recently pressed, or you were in an in-game menu, flying vs racing, etc.) and you've got roughly 30 trillion different permutations of options.

Most people didn't like all the customization though, they just used it as its default. Then Steam turned on similar customizations for xbox and ps controllers and it pretty much died off.

I could see it being unimpressive if you didn't use it to its full capability.

If you really dive into what customizations you can perform with it, it's pretty incredible. Though the effort it takes to get there is just as incredible. I don't think the general public wants to put in that sort of time before they can even start playing the game. Then they have think about, and re-do all the customizations on every single game? Too much.

In other controller news, I've been looking at various stick and throttle options. The old Force Feedback 2 is still working like a champ, but I'll admit its sensitivity is a little obsolete and the thumb throttle, while surprisingly responsive, doesn't have very satisfying resistance. Good enough to quickly swap to for some jet or chopper play on Battlefield 2, maybe not so much for hyper-accurate flight sims. Still super-sad about those being discontinued. I'd probably have had a Sidewinder Force Feedback 10 by now.

e: that video does make valid criticisms. it does very much feel like a controller for a niche market. but if you're already heavy into modding and stuff (I also remap almost every game I play; love ones with "clear all" buttons on the remap menu, and especially primary/secondary settings), it probably wasn't a burden.

How realistic of a stick/throttle are you looking for? I know honeycomb makes some good shit but that's for flight-sims not 'gaming'

And that is 100% of my knowledge on the subject. I have a $50 Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X which works fine for BF3 and fine for FS2020, but great for neither.

I've been looking at some of the ones described here:

https://www.hackint0sh.org/best-joystick

I'd be using it for things like mech games, FPSs with flight segments, and perhaps something like War Thunder (though not War Thunder, I've put too much time in games like WoT). For American Truck Sim until I get a wheel and pedals, and FS2020.

An X-56 without the lights might be cool, but it looks like it could have a better build for that price point.

Joint unit would be nice for placing in my lap, though not really a weighted factor at all. Prefer sub-$250 range, would go up to $500.

Blue screened a handful of times while playing Far Cry 5. BSOD while in class today which was a major bad situation. MS events or whatever said it was a graphics driver issue. Updated my graphics driver. My wallpapers disappeared but otherwise whatever. The GPU I have struggles with the setup I got. I need a fancy new GPU. The RTX 3080 is out of stock everywhere but will actually be in line with my set up. Issue is my 650w Platinum PSU isn't powerful enough. The RTX 3080 needs a PSU of 750w. So if I were to get a new RTX 3080, I would need to get a new PSU and at that point, I would have a PSU and GPU I don't need sitting around with the others I don't need. Crazy solution: let's build a new computer! Instead of getting a fancy T.V, we roll that budget into a fancy new computer. We put the current computer with the old monitor and let it live out it's glory days as a HTPC or whatever they are called.

I would actually need a full tower though to fit the big PSU, giant GPU, RAID array, and 2 SSDs. I saw this Corsair full tower on Amazon and was impressed by all of its drive ports.
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51MK7iWrmDL._AC_.jpg

Of course this is just spitballing because the fancy GPU I need isn't even in stock anywhere which hurts every other manufacturer I was willing to buy from to build this unholy machine.
