I think the Chinese are going to suffer the most out of this, deservedly so.

They've highly leveraged themselves to invest in their own stockmarket, and to buy property overseas.
Australian banks are going to be a bit screwed when they default on the mortgages they took out to buy flaky apartments.

Also my linkedin is getting bombarded by chinese sales managers wanting to connect. If I don't and they don't make enough contacts will they get fired?
I'd feel guilty about that but equally I don't want my contacts plastered with hot asian chicks, people will think I'm weird.

Are the Chinese going to compensate us all for infecting the world with their Pangolin Plague? Hopefully it'll be the end of Emperor Jinping.

Hipsters like Jay call me a conspiracy theorist but I don't discount the idea that when the Chinese think they have this licked, have their own vaccine which they won't share (they're reckoned to have other vaccines they're keeping to themselves) they'll take the opportunity to invade Taiwan or whatever.

Sometimes it is good to have a mad dog like Trump ready to use nukes on a whim.

Parents have to make arrangements for watching small kids on short notice. A lot of young kids will infect and kill their grandparents.
It doesn't help that we're having an early spring and thus allergies. People are going nuts.

No one but the CCP can be 100% sure what the Chinese are even doing in Wuhan to contain things if they are in fact even contained at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese were euthanizing people or are committed to starving out the infected cities. I find it really hard to believe they managed to stop new infections in a 60 million person petri dish.

I am not going to call it Wuhan flu anymore and refer to it as COVID-19. The president called it a "foreign virus" when he announced banning Europeans from America (???). I am not worried about bigotry towards Chinese people. I fear that by calling it a foreign virus it will undermine domestic public health efforts. And the Republican party in the Senate is already blocking all relief bills the House sends it because they think it is a Democrat conspiracy.

No, it's because Pelosi slipped abortion funding into the bill.

As long as they don't close my local home depot I'm good. I think my kids school will be closed next week so I'll be home. So many projects to complete!

Bloody religions will be the end of us all.

Religious congregations across Australia have responded to recent coronavirus containment measures in a variety of ways, including one church that has chosen to ignore medical advice.

Greek Orthodox churches across the country will allow congregations of hundreds of people to sip wine from the same spoon during mass because "the holy cup cannot carry disease," the Archdiocese said.

Australian Medical Association associate professor Julian Rait said the move by the church put parishioners at risk
In Australia, 373,000 people identified as Greek Orthodox in the 2016 census and 40 per cent were aged over 50
The Catholic Church and Anglican Church have ceased serving wine in the common cup, due to coronavirus

An underclass with no healthcare is not good for anyone.

As it sweeps across nations, the coronavirus is exposing systemic flaws. In China, it was freedom of information; here in the US it is the massive disparities in the way people are treated depending on their economic circumstances and their immigration status.

The coronavirus of course does not discriminate on those grounds and having large sections of society being unable to see a doctor is suddenly in focus as not just being bad for the individuals themselves, but for the country a whole.

What irks me about this crisis is how extremely unstable our 'economic recovery/boom' is. It seems that a month without maximum productivity will instantly topple countless business. Where on earth is the liquidity? Does the private sector have 0 in savings/resilience? It's unbelievable to me that, in my business too, job cuts, removal of all temporary personnel  & work restrictions have already been announced after just one week. Even in the good times the message from above was always 'if we look 2 months ahead we're bankrupt!'. What happened to all those profits...

Thats life in modern business, and people's personal lives. Any cash is immediately drained and spent. Are CEOs expected to plan much beyond the next quarter? Some do.

An interesting point in today's paper, the bulk of the world's pharmaceuticals, and 90% of all protective clothing, masks etc, are made in China.
They can turn the tap off at a moment's notice if it suits them.
Governments are just waking up to this, the strategic issue and that China is profiting out of this - although in total they probably aren't.

If this had been a biological attack,  and it still could be - are we hearing reports of senior CCP officials getting sick, or Chinese regions outside Hubei really suffering? They seem to have been barely affected - they could stop supply and we'd be fucked.

Does it really make sense for the country we are most likely to face a war with to also control the bulk of our medicine supply?
As of 2007, there were already 1,800 foreign-funded pharmaceutical enterprises in China [Reference: https://web.archive.org/web/20080513032 … 1998.htm]. Currently, all the top 20 pharmaceutical companies in the world have set up joint ventures or wholly owned facilities in China.
So we've gifted them the expertise and facilities, in return they'll use it against us.

In a rare high-profile public comment, one former central bank adviser suggested that China could curb its exports of antibiotics to the United States as a trade war retaliation tool.

“We are at the mercy of others when it comes to computer chips, but we are the world’s largest exporter of raw materials for vitamins and antibiotics,” Li Daokui, a professor of economics at Tsinghua University, said in March 2019 while speaking at the National People’s Conference.

“Should we reduce the exports, the medical systems of some western countries will not run well,” he added.

For a number of businesses, profits get sunk into cost of operation. Not the yacht club. And a number of businesses still haven't completely recovered from the "great recession."

https://lni.wa.gov/workers-rights/leave … sibilities at the minimum. We're fairly liberal beyond that with time off allowed for illness or to care for an ill relative. The state law isn't much of a safety net though, and there's only so much some businesses can absorb before it starts to sting.

Also, it's not a mechanic business. I don't know where you got that.

I forget you live in a blue state. I would guess any new federal sick requirements would not go as far as what Washington probably already has.

I am fairly certain you own a workshop that builds and repairs trannies.
