a GIF is an image. bearing in mind a GIF can just be a single, static image, too. the above is just a lot of images stitched together.

video formats are rather different in the way they are encoded and played. do keep up.

video formats technically are encoded with audio. that's part of the 'recording'. we're talking tech terms here not the oxford dictionary. (do you want me to tell you about the latin etymology of 'vide'?)
