I made a promise to work at a soup kitchen or some other volunteer spot this Christmas due to my continued career success. The last 10 months has been good to me and despite doing my best to be kind to others, I am still afraid I am not giving my fair share back.
So I am looking forward to being able to serve up some charity next month.

fun fact - the least amount of help charities need is around the holidays, because everyone has the temporary "giving" bug during this time of year.
Good on you for volunteering, but you should also be a big boy and donate your time in the summer or spring too (if not year round). I found that choosing something that I was passionate about (in my case, homelessness and more specifically, youth homelessness) led me to better opportunities to donate my time/effort. Just paying lip service is nice, and definitely needed, but if you want to make a continuing impact think about something you feel strongly for or advocate against and see if there are opportunities to contribute in your area. Even something as simple as grant writing or admin help is ALWAYS needed.
It's pretty simple to seek out volunteer opportunities on the web too. I used volunteermatch.com and checked out a few different outreach programs/charities until I found one I thought I could contribute to. I was surprised to find a few others within that group were also connected through that site. It's a good starting resource.

I was drinking at the bar but then went to 711 before going home. On my way home, a begger asked for help. I lied and said I had no cash but I had a 5. I went to the bar and had a cheap beer and broke the 5 to give a dollar to the begger.
2018 has been a great year; paid off my student loans, got a good contract in a suburban district, dating more...very nervous about losing my good fortune. I don't believe karma actually exist but I will Pascale wager it and work to do good.
