Yes, cultural Catholicism is a genuine and strong thing. The church's centralized structure makes it easy to keep on message and offer the same experience wherever you go. So people identify strongly with the symbols and message since it is so widespread. I think most Catholics who turn atheist never manage to shake it off.

That is just another problem with Protestantism. Over half of the problems with Christianity in this country is the Protestants fault anyway. You can call me a sectarian bigot, I don't care.
