The fastest way to end the fighting would be to threaten to seize the Saudi sovereign wealth fund. They stole all that money from British and American oil companies in the first place anyway.

Saudi Arabia funds ISIS? Conspiracy theory. Jaish al-Fatah, yes. They are funding groups opposed to ISIS. Saudi Arabia is valuable ally here.

ya because they fund other terrorist groups.  A very solid ally indeed.  The enemy of my enemy is my friend has resulted in fucked up foreign policy repurcussions time and time again.  I'd like to think there's a better strategy.

Macbeth, you aren't in the armed forces, you were never in the armed forces, you've never studied warfare strategy in any kind of academic capacity, so why the fuck are you trotting out all these ideas on how to face ISIS?  You sound like Warman or shifty.

Also, it's been demonstrated time after time that you can't fight an idea with aggressive military force.  You are advocating an expedient solution that has historically led to worse terrorism and unrest.

My solution: diplomatic and economic pressure on ME countries to cut off funds and military aid to ISIS and anyone supporting them.  None of this armchair general garbage.  "Hmm, we will use the TOW system or other ATGM to kill ISIS."

No, you should go KYS ASAP
You can't kill an idea but you can destroy their training camps, funding, smuggling system etc. The Paris attackers all visited and trained in Syria. It is obviously important to stop their ground capabilities. Providing stability in Syria will stop radicals from spreading out of there.

The TOWs are meant to be used on the government anyway.

There isn't. And forcing Saudi Arabia and Turkey to stop arming Jaish al-Fatah just empowers Hezbollah. Iran isn't going to stop being the #1 sponsor of state terrorism.

and the 9/11 hijackers were born out of afghan training camps.  Last i checked, we bombed the fuck out of Afghanistan yet we still have terrorists, and probably more than when we started our wonderful world police campaign.  So if we bombed Syria, why would that solution work?  We already have a record of it not working.

I don't think we will agree on a position here.  You're adamantly for using force to fight terrorism.  I'm looking at history and saying that doesn't work.

Afghanistan would be a place of peace had we not left to invade Iraq. Iraq would be a place of peace if we didn't leave. ISIS is the result of disengagement not engagement.

How do you feel about the genocide ISIS committed?

ok so you are trolling.  Or do you really believe that?  No, you can't actually seriously believe that.

How do I feel about genocide?  Hmm, yeah, ok.

You claim to want a serious discussion.  You're gonna have to do better, Macbeth.

What did I say was wrong? AQ was defeated in Iraq when we left. The Sunnis in the north were content. And Iraq had a functioning government. After we left, it all went bad. The KRG worked out fine.

Washington (CNN)A devastating new report by military investigators released Thursday found that the 10 sailors captured by Iranians in January suffered from "failed leadership" at all levels on a mission that was plagued by mistakes from beginning to end.
...
The report concluded, however, that the Americans didn't violate international law, while the Iranians did.

"The investigation concluded that Iran violated international law by impeding the boats' innocent passage transit, and they violated our sovereign immunity by boarding, searching, and seizing the boats, and by photographing and video recording the crew," Richardson said at the news conference.

This is ridiculous. Obama has foolishly let Iran run wild throughout the middle east. The U.S. needs to take a firm stand against Iran. We need to mobilize and attack Syria and Yemen.

Iran is supporting Shia militias there. They overthrew the government and instigated a civil war our ally Saudi Arabia has had to clean up. We need to stop those Shia and help our ally.

Another terrorist attack in Europe. This would have never have happened if we had bombed the Syrian government in 2003.

Whoops. Wrong year. I meant 2013. If we had intervened in 2013 when Assad gassed the Syrian opposition, ISIS would not have taken root in Syria. 470,000 more people would still be alive too.

Okay, fine. What do you think we could have done to prevent the rise of ISIS after the withdrawal? What is your plan now?

You guys keep complaining but you have no plans or answers.

Not withdrawing would of been a good start.

In retrospect, we should have stayed. Obama is slowly increasing the amount of troops in Iraq. It seems like we are building up a permanent presence while trying to make sure most Americans don't notice.

I do have one issue regarding the withdrawal. When we left, the withdrawal was overwhelmingly popular. It was so popular that republicans bent over backwards to deny Obama the victory by pointing out Bush started the withdrawal process. Now those same people are angry at Obama for pulling out. That leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

Bush's drawn down called for @ 10,000 troops to stay I think. . I'm pretty sure the complete withdrawal wasn't popular with most military advisers.

We are going to have to have troops permanently stationed in Iraq and Syria.

we have troops everywhere the US military has ever set foot.

everywhere. and Obama leaving a bad taste in your mouth should have been the 2012 RNC theme.
