He had a few good songs but I am already tired of his mandatory internet mourning.
I think as a constantly evolving cultural icon Bowie deserves a bit of prolonged mourning. I respected his music but was never a huge fan, (aside from the Labyrinth soundtrack, my first album,) but his passing does upset me.
Also this way we get to see all the hilarious corporate misappropriation of a high profile celebrity death.

i think there's something very interesting to be said in terms of cultural theory, about how our extremely image-based culture has this overwhelming preoccupation and public ritual around death. primitive cultures and early industrial civilisations dealing with the encounter/advent with photography had a LOT of hang-ups and taboos about death, or the photograph 'stealing' the soul. it's weird that when our most photographed and ubiquitous celebrities die, we have this huge collective freakout. what do you mean they're dead? their images have been omnipresent for our whole lives!
And now Alan Rickman is dead at 69.
We should do something about this cancer stuff
Obama is gonna cure cancer, and Biden is gonna spearhead it!
Does seems to be the popular thing at the moment.
If you asked me a month ago who I thought would last longer out of Bowie, Rickman or Lemmy, (odd combo but this is a hypothetical,) I wouldn't have guessed Lemmy. Then again maybe that's why my Dead Pool trilogy still has one person alive on it six and a half years later.

My 2016 picks:
Queen Elizabeth
Jimmy Carter
Clint Eastwood
Queen Elizabeth
Jimmy Carter
Clint Eastwood
Doesn't Jimmy Carter have cancer?
He had cancer on a bunch of his body parts but he said they were able to cure him. He has the best healthcare a 14 trillion dollar economy can by after all.
really going out on a limb with those picks, eh?
We will see. What are your picks?
She died in 1603, sorry.SuperJail Warden wrote:

I don't like the idea of playing a game around correctly picking who will die in the upcoming year. For a once aspiring mortician I can see the motivation though.
I wouldn't be surprised if Liz lived to see 2026. Her mum lived to 101 after all. Plus she basically doesn't have any responsibilities now with Charles and the grandkids doing the whole "being royals" thing. And she is waited on hand and foot and has access to the best possible care. Her only job is cementing her place as Britain's longest reigning monarch and for that all she literally needs to do is stay alive.
The monarchy has become a lot less interesting now that wars for the crown aren't popular any more.

British geezers in their seventies. There seems to be a pattern...Ty wrote:

Lemmy was the only one who wasn't 69, and he was only just 70 as his birthday was a couple of days before he died. Freaky.
Also this has been mandatory viewing around these parts.

They on about putting up a Lemmy statue in Burslem (part of Stoke) he only lived here till he was about 7 or something... though he still had family in the area
Of all the recent deaths Lemmy mattered the least. I don't understand why teens-20 Americans care about him. They probably just admire his tough guy lifestyle that got him killed.
You're an idiot

Nah Lemmy was just a meh. It reminds me of how everyone in high school was totally sad Dimebag Darrell got killed. Probably only heard the name and thought he was cool. Pantera eh do not recommend.
each of them 69 (seventy fail). each of them succumb to cancer (old age fail).Ultrafunkula wrote:

humankind has been going on longer than the Bible,
Changes that no generation can rival,
and along came some individuals,
that were uniquely broke from the residuals,
and everyone can only spew bile.
fuck each and every one of you.
i liked Motorhead
i liked Bowie (i had the pleasure to see him on stage, and in concert)
i liked Rickman (especially in Dogma)
i used to like you, until i realized i like me.
stick your karma up your ass, you don't have any class,

I like the part in Dogma where Snape killed Dumbledore then got chased through a skyscraper by a barefoot Bruce Willis. It was Robin Hood that got him in the end, right?
